Photos: One dead, four injured as building collapses in Kano

A building collapse along Sultan Road in the Nasarawa Government Reserved Area (GRA) of Kano on Friday claimed the life of one person and left four others injured.

The incident was confirmed by the Executive Secretary of the Kano State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Alhaji Isyaku Lawan Kubarachi, who said emergency responders and residents worked together to rescue five persons trapped beneath the rubble.

According to Kubarachi, four of the victims sustained varying degrees of injuries and were rescued alive, while one person later died as a result of severe injuries sustained in the collapse.

He commended the prompt response and cooperation of residents and first responders, noting that their efforts contributed significantly to the successful rescue of those trapped at the scene.

The SEMA Executive Secretary urged residents and developers to strictly adhere to approved building standards and ensure that qualified engineers supervise all construction projects to prevent similar tragedies.

He stressed the importance of obtaining all necessary approvals and complying with engineering and safety regulations before embarking on any building project.

Kubarachi conveyed the condolences of the Kano State Government to the family of the deceased and prayed for the peaceful repose of the victim’s soul.

He also wished the injured victims a speedy recovery and assured that the government would continue to promote measures aimed at safeguarding lives and property through strict compliance with building safety regulations.

Rescue operations were concluded after all trapped victims were evacuated from the collapsed structure, while the cause of the incident is expected to be investigated by the relevant authorities.
