Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has commended the Household Prosperity and Empowerment Cash Transfer Programme for its achievements in transparency, operational efficiency, and wide beneficiary coverage across the state.
The governor made the remark on Monday at the Government House, Kano, while receiving the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Bernard M. Doro, who led a delegation from the ministry on an assessment visit.
In a statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Mustapha Muhammad, Yusuf disclosed that the programme has reached 609,013 beneficiaries in Kano State, with a total disbursement of N48,276,150,000 to citizens living below the poverty line.
“This achievement reflects the programme’s far-reaching commitment to poverty alleviation, social inclusion, and economic empowerment,” the governor stated.

Represented by his Chief of Staff, Dr. Sulaiman Wali Sani, the governor urged beneficiaries to see the support not as temporary relief but as a foundation for sustainable economic growth.
He also commended the minister for what he described as visionary leadership and dedication towards the successful implementation of the National Social Safety Nets Project Scale Up.
Earlier, Doro said his visit to Kano was aimed at engaging stakeholders and beneficiaries to evaluate the progress and impact of the programme. He noted that the volume of funds disbursed to beneficiaries in Kano surpasses the combined total received by four other states, attributing the success to the transparency demonstrated by the state government.
In her remarks, the State Commissioner for Women Affairs, Children and Persons with Special Needs, Amina Abdullahi, confirmed that the programme is progressing smoothly, adding that beneficiaries have continued to express appreciation for the intervention.
The visit formed part of ongoing efforts to strengthen social protection initiatives and ensure effective delivery of poverty reduction programmes across the country.
