Nigeria Immigration Service hands over six suspected human trafficking victims to NAPTIP in Jigawa

The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Jigawa State Command, has handed over six suspected victims of human trafficking to the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) following their interception during a routine border patrol operation in Jigawa State.

The victims were intercepted on July 3, 2026, by personnel of the command at the Tsamiyar Ilu Patrol Base in Kazaure Local Government Area while allegedly attempting to cross into the Republic of Niger through an unauthorised route. Preliminary investigations indicate that the victims were en route to Europe through irregular migration channels.

According to the command, all six victims are female, aged between 20 and 26 years, and hail from Nasarawa, Kaduna, Benue, Osun, Oyo, and Kogi States.

After initial screening and documentation by the Nigeria Immigration Service, the victims were formally handed over to NAPTIP on July 6, 2026, for further investigation, profiling, counselling, rehabilitation, and eventual reunification with their respective families.

The NIS Jigawa State Command reaffirmed its commitment to combating human trafficking, irregular migration, and other transnational crimes through sustained border surveillance and inter-agency collaboration.

The command also urged the public to remain vigilant and support security agencies by reporting suspicious movements and activities that could be linked to human trafficking or other cross-border criminal networks.
