The Minister of State for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Dr. Mariya Mahmoud Bunkure, has restated the administration’s commitment to improving paediatric surgical care and strengthening healthcare delivery in the territory.
Dr. Bunkure made this known on Thursday at the official opening of the 24th Annual General Meeting of the Association of Paediatric Surgeons of Nigeria (Abuja Chapter), held in Abuja.
She commended paediatric surgeons for their vital role in safeguarding children’s health, noting that their work embodies compassion, precision, and resilience while contributing significantly to national development.

The Minister acknowledged the challenges facing the health sector, including inadequate infrastructure and shortages of skilled manpower, but said ongoing reforms, technological innovations, and improved training provide opportunities for progress.
She assured that the FCT Administration would continue to collaborate with professional associations to expand access to quality healthcare, strengthen referral systems, and ensure timely surgical interventions for children across both urban and rural areas.
