President Bola Tinubu will on Saturday depart Abuja on a three-state visit to Borno, Bauchi and Lagos states as part of his official engagements ahead of the end-of-year activities. In Borno State, the President is expected to commission several projects executed by the administration of Governor Babagana Zulum in collaboration with the Federal Government. He will also attend the wedding ceremony of Sadeeq Sheriff, son of former Borno State Governor and Senator, Ali Modu Sheriff, and his bride, Hadiza Kam Salem. From Maiduguri, President Tinubu will proceed to Bauchi State to condole with the Bauchi State Government and the family of the late Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi, a renowned Islamic cleric and leader of the Tijjaniyya Muslim Brotherhood, who passed away on November 27. While in Lagos, President Tinubu will serve as the guest of honour at the Eyo Festival scheduled for December 27 at the Tafawa Balewa Square. The festival will honour notable personalities, including the President’s late mother, Alhaja Abibatu Mogaji, former Lagos State Governor, Alhaji Lateef Jakande, and Chief Michael Otedola.

President Bola Tinubu on Friday presented a ₦58.47 trillion budget proposal for the 2026 fiscal year to a joint session of the National Assembly, outlining spending priorities across key sectors of the economy. Under the proposal, capital expenditure is estimated at ₦26.08 trillion, while recurrent (non-debt) expenditure stands at ₦15.25 trillion. The budget is benchmarked against a crude oil price of $64.85 per barrel. The President said expected total revenue for the 2026 fiscal year is ₦34.33 trillion, while projected total expenditure is ₦58.18 trillion, including ₦15.52 trillion earmarked for debt servicing. This leaves a budget deficit of ₦23.85 trillion, representing 4.28 per cent of the Gross Domestic Product. A breakdown of sectoral allocations shows that defence and security received the largest share at ₦5.41 trillion, followed by infrastructure with ₦3.56 trillion. Education is allocated ₦3.52 trillion, while the health sector is set to receive ₦2.48 trillion. The budget, titled “Budget of Consolidation, Renewed Resilience and Shared Prosperity,” was described by the President as more than routine fiscal estimates. Addressing lawmakers, Tinubu said the proposal reflects the administration’s national priorities, reaffirming the government’s commitment to fiscal sustainability, debt transparency, and value-for-money spending.

The Police Service Commission, PSC, has approved the elevation of several senior officers of the Nigeria Police Force to higher ranks. Torty Njoku Kalu, Head of Protocol and Public Affairs, stated in a press release that the promotions followed rigorous written examinations and oral interviews, concluded on Wednesday, December 17, 2025, at the PSC Corporate Headquarters in Jabi, Abuja, presided over by the Chairman, DIG Hashimu Salihu Argungu (retd). The statement named the promoted senior officers to include AIG Mohammed Usman Gumel, who, until his promotion, was the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of the Community Policing Project Department, Research and Planning, Nigeria Police Force Headquarters, Abuja. The commission also elevated seven Commissioners of Police to the rank of Assistant Inspectors-General of Police. The Chairman of the commission, DIG Hashimu Argungu (retd), congratulated the newly promoted officers and tasked them to embrace their new responsibilities with greater commitment to the service of the nation. Argungu emphasised that promotion comes with higher expectations and urged the beneficiaries to rededicate themselves to effective policing, protection of lives and property, and the maintenance of law and order. He reiterated the commission’s resolve to ensure regular, merit-based promotions in line with best practices.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the reconstitution of the Board of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), following the Senate’s confirmation of its members on December 16. This was conveyed in a statement signed by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President, (Information & Strategy). President Tinubu has charged the board members of NERC to deepen and consolidate the ongoing transformation of Nigeria’s power sector, in strict alignment with the letter and spirit of the Electricity Act, 2023. The reconstituted Board members are: – Mulisiu Olalekan Oseni, PhD — Chairman Dr Oseni started his service as a Commissioner in January 2017. He was subsequently appointed Vice Chairman of the Commission. His appointment as Chairman took effect from 1 December 2025 and shall subsist until the completion of his ten-year tenure at the Commission, in accordance with the provisions of the Electricity Act, 2023. He was first appointed in January 2017. – Mr Dafe Akpeneye — Commissioner Mr Akpeneye is serving a second term, having been first appointed as a Commissioner in January 2017. – Aisha Mahmud Kanti Bello — Commissioner Aisha Bello is serving her second term, having been first appointed as a Commissioner in December 2020. – Dr Chidi Ike — Commissioner Dr Ike is serving his first term, having been first appointed as a Commissioner in February 2022. – Dr Fouad Animashaun — Commissioner. Dr Animashaun is serving his first term, effective December 2025. He is an energy economist with extensive experience in the Nigerian power sector and most recently served as Executive Commissioner and Chief Executive Officer of the Lagos State Electricity Regulatory Commission.

The Senate has confirmed the appointment of 64 ambassadorial nominees, comprising 34 career ambassadors and 30 non-career ambassadors. Among the career ambassadors confirmed are Arewa Esther (Oyo State), Adeola-Ibrahim Mopelola (Ogun), Ramat Omonbolale (Lagos), Monica Okechukwu Enebechi (Anambra), Adams Jane Basset (Cross River), Mohammed Lele (Bauchi), and Muhammad Dahiru (Kaduna). The non-career ambassadors confirmed include Ajimobi Florence (Oyo), Sulola Akande (Oyo), Uguwanyi Ifeanyi (Enugu), Ita Enang (Akwa Ibom), Femi Fani-Kayode (Osun), Jerry Manwe (Taraba), Reno Omokri (Delta), Ibas Ibok-Ette (Cross River), Abdulrahman Dambazzau (Kano), and Abas Braimah (Edo).
