Governor Yusuf Nominated for National Award on Visionary Leadership

The Kano State Government has announced that Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has been formally nominated for a Distinguished Award for Visionary Leadership and Public Service Sector Reform at the forthcoming Nigeria Excellence Awards in Public Service (NEAPS). The nomination was conveyed through a letter from M. S. Danjuma, Permanent Secretary (General Service Office), Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation. The announcement was signed by Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, obtained by ‘The Historica Nigeria‘ on Sunday. The governors made this known at a two-day strategic retreat of the Progressive Governors Forum in Lagos, where they assessed national issues, including security coordination, economic reforms, and grassroots governance. The Forum’s Chairman, Senator Hope Uzodimma, Governor of Imo State, commended Tinubu for the ongoing re-engineering of Nigeria’s security architecture, describing it as a welcome development. Nigerian Army Suspends Retirements Amid Nationwide Security Emergency

The Nigerian Army has frozen both statutory and voluntary retirements for specific categories of officers, including Generals, following the nationwide security emergency declared by President Bola Tinubu. The decision comes in response to escalating insecurity across the country, with over 600 kidnapping cases recorded in November alone. Major incidents included the abduction of more than 300 students in Niger State, 38 worshippers in Kwara State, and 25 students in Kebbi State. President Tinubu had, on November 26, declared a national security emergency, directing the armed forces, police, and intelligence agencies to intensify recruitment and deploy thousands of additional personnel to tackle worsening threats. To support the expanded operational demand, an internal memo dated December 3 and signed by Maj. Gen. E. I. Okoro on behalf of the Chief of Army Staff announced the immediate suspension of retirements. The circular explained that while officers ordinarily retire upon reaching age limits, completing 35 years of service, or failing promotions and conversion boards, the Harmonised Terms and Conditions of Service Officers (HTACOS) 2024 allows extensions when required “in the interest of the service.” The memo stated that the President’s declaration necessitated urgent manpower expansion, making it “expedient to temporarily suspend all statutory and voluntary retirements from the Nigerian Army with immediate effect.” Read Also: ICPC Grills Former Director Over Alleged Irregular Contract Appointment at FCCPC The suspension affects officers who have failed promotion exams three times, been passed over multiple times at promotion boards, reached rank age ceilings, failed conversion boards thrice, or completed 35 years in service. However, those who choose not to remain are permitted to proceed with standard retirement procedures. The memo noted that officers granted extensions will not be eligible for promotions, courses, secondments, or extra-regimental postings during the period. Commanders have been directed to communicate the directive to personnel and ensure effective morale management. The Army added that the policy will be reviewed once national security conditions improve.

The event, which featured 4,444 Qur’an memorizers, was part of the governor’s ongoing commitment to promoting peace, stability, and divine intervention in addressing emerging security challenges within the state. The prayer session drew massive attendance from across Kano, with thousands of residents converging to seek Allah’s guidance and protection. Many described the gathering as deeply spiritual and emotionally uplifting, considering the various socio-economic and security challenges facing the country. Progressive Institute Wraps Up Capacity-Building Course for APC Treasury Workers

The Progressive Institute (TPI), the think-tank arm of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has concluded a five-day capacity-building programme for staff of the party’s Treasury Department at the APC National Headquarters in Abuja. The training, held at the TPI Boardroom from Monday, December 1, to Friday, December 5, 2025, focused on enhancing participants’ competence in budgeting, forecasting, planning, and cost/budgetary control to strengthen organizational efficiency. Speaking at the closing session, the Director General of TPI, Dr. Lanre Adebayo, commended the APC National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, for prioritizing the professional development of the party’s workforce. He said the initiative represents the first time a ruling party leadership has empowered its training arm to build internal capacity among party staff. Unregistered PoS Operators Risk Shutdown as CAC Issues New Directive

The Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) has mandated all Point-of-Sale (PoS) operators nationwide to register with the Commission by 1 January 2026, warning that any operator who fails to comply will be barred from conducting business in Nigeria. In a public notice issued on Saturday, the CAC expressed concern over the growing number of unregistered PoS businesses across the country. The Commission stated that running a PoS enterprise without proper registration violates the Companies and Allied Matters Act (CAMA) 2020 as well as the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Agent Banking Regulations. The Commission also criticised some fintech companies for onboarding unregistered agents, describing the practice as reckless and detrimental to the stability of the country’s financial system. It noted that such actions expose millions of Nigerians—including traders, small business owners, and rural users—to avoidable economic and investment risks. All operators are advised to regularise immediately. The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has relieved the Acting Executive Chairman of the Federal Capital Territory Internal Revenue Service (FCT-IRS), Michael Ango, of his duties. The development was confirmed in a statement issued on Friday by the Senior Special Assistant to the Minister on Public Communication and Social Media, Lere Olayinka. Following Ango’s removal, the most senior official of the FCT-IRS has been directed to immediately assume leadership of the revenue agency in an acting capacity. During Ango’s tenure, the FCT-IRS recorded ₦262 billion in revenue for 2024, surpassing its ₦250 billion target and exceeding the ₦211.1 billion collected in 2023.

Kano Govt Condemns Arrest of Former Anti-Corruption Chief Muhuyi Magaji

Rimin Gado was arrested at his law office on Zaria Road, Kano, without a warrant, and taken to Abuja. The government questions the timing and manner of the arrest, citing ongoing high-profile investigations involving politically exposed persons from Kano State, and a court order restraining the police from arresting him. The Chairman of the Kano Online Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Abubakar Abdulqadir Dangambo, has urged online journalists in the state to remain committed to ethical practice and uphold the principles of professionalism. Dangambo made the call during a chat with newsmen in Kano on Friday. He expressed concern over the rising cases of online newspaper editors engaging in blackmail, misinformation, and the use of pseudonyms to malign individuals and institutions. He described the trend as unethical and contrary to the ideals of responsible journalism. “There is balancing in journalism. You cannot report only one side of a conflicting story; doing so portrays bias. Unfortunately, some people are hiding under the name of Kano to publish unethical and blackmail-driven reports,” he said. They should register with us as soon as possible. We will not fold our arms while misconduct continues, and we will soon publish the names of our registered members,” he added.
