The Federal Government has commenced the disbursement of ₦50,000 emergency relief support to selected vulnerable Nigerians, with approved financial service providers, including Moniepoint Microfinance Bank and OPay, unveiling channels through which customers can check their eligibility and access the funds.

The intervention, known as the National Emergency Relief and Stabilisation Intervention (NERSI), is designed to provide financial assistance to poor and vulnerable households struggling with prevailing economic pressures, including the rising cost of living and inflation.

Launched on October 30, 2026, the programme is being implemented by the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, with payments facilitated through approved digital financial service providers.

In separate announcements, Moniepoint and OPay provided instructions for customers seeking to determine whether they had been selected as beneficiaries.

Moniepoint said eligible customers could check their status by dialling *557327# from the phone number registered with their accounts and selecting the option to verify their eligibility for the intervention.

According to the bank, customers confirmed as beneficiaries would be guided through the steps required to accept the support and receive the funds directly into their Moniepoint accounts at no additional cost.

The bank said it was among the payment providers selected by the Federal Government to facilitate the disbursement of the intervention.

Similarly, OPay announced that its customers could check their eligibility by dialling *95520# using the phone number linked to their OPay accounts.

Customers can also check their OPay applications for notifications indicating whether they have been selected.

Those confirmed as beneficiaries are expected to follow the instructions provided to accept the support and complete the process of receiving the funds into their designated mobile wallets.

How beneficiaries are selected

According to the programme guidelines, beneficiaries are selected based on the Federal Government’s eligibility criteria and verification processes, which rely on verified national identity records and the National Social Register.

The intervention targets poor and vulnerable households across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones.

However, both payment providers indicated that the programme was being implemented in phases, meaning eligible Nigerians might not receive notifications or access the funds at the same time.

The selection process is also not open to independent applications, as beneficiaries are identified through existing government records and screening procedures.

No registration or processing fees

The Federal Government has maintained that beneficiaries are not required to pay registration, processing or activation fees to access the ₦50,000 support.

Moniepoint specifically advised customers to use only its official USSD channel when checking their eligibility or accessing the funds, stressing that the process required no additional payment, documentation or third-party intervention.

Babatunde Olofin, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Moniepoint Microfinance Bank, said the bank was pleased to support eligible customers in receiving assistance under the government initiative.

He said Moniepoint would deploy its technology and financial infrastructure to make the process accessible, seamless and secure.

The bank also advised customers with enquiries to contact its customer service team or the NERSI helpdesk.

Meanwhile, Nigerians have been cautioned against fraudsters who may demand money or confidential banking information under the guise of facilitating access to the intervention.

Beneficiaries are advised not to disclose their Automated Teller Machine (ATM) Personal Identification Numbers (PINs), One-Time Passwords (OTPs) or other sensitive banking details to anyone.

For enquiries or complaints, the NERSI helpdesk can be reached through 0700-022-2222.

The Federal Government’s intervention is intended as direct financial assistance to selected beneficiaries and does not require repayment.
