Ganduje’s Dubai engagement caps busy stretch, as spiritual journey beckons

Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, Chairman of the Board of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), has rounded off another busy stretch of official and political engagements with a high-level leadership programme in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, as he prepares for the next phase of his engagements.

A recent photograph taken in Dubai shows Ganduje alongside his son, Engr. Umar Ganduje, popularly known as Engr. Abba Ganduje, Executive Director, Technical Services at the Rural Electrification Agency (REA), and others.

The picture came shortly after Ganduje joined members of the FAAN Board and management team at the conclusion of a five-day high-level training programme focused on sustainable leadership and institutional management.

The programme, held at ATOM Aviation Training Service in Dubai, was designed to strengthen leadership capacity and promote sustainable approaches to organisational management, particularly within the aviation sector.

For Ganduje, the Dubai engagement represents another dimension of his continuing public responsibilities as Chairman of FAAN, following a series of high-level engagements in recent weeks involving aviation administration, political reconciliation and national development.

From FAAN boardroom to political reconciliation
Before travelling to Dubai, Ganduje had remained active on several fronts.

As FAAN Board Chairman, he has participated in high-level engagements concerning the administration and future direction of Nigeria’s airports, working with the Authority’s management and other stakeholders on issues surrounding leadership, institutional development and improved service delivery.

His recent activities have also extended beyond the aviation sector.

In the political arena, Ganduje has continued to be involved in efforts aimed at strengthening unity within the APC and resolving internal disagreements among party stakeholders.

He recently played a role in efforts to settle disputes involving APC councillors leadership  nationwide, while groups within the party have also been moving towards greater cooperation and consolidation ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Some of the emerging political alignments have included calls for unity and support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima as the APC prepares for another electoral contest.

The developments have reinforced Ganduje’s continuing position as one of the party’s experienced political figures, particularly in Kano and the wider North-West.

His leadership style spanning politics and institutions
The combination of his recent engagements illustrates the breadth of Ganduje’s current responsibilities.

At FAAN, his focus is institutional, with emphasis on strengthening management, professional capacity and the effectiveness of Nigeria’s airport system.

In politics, his experience continues to place him in conversations involving reconciliation, consensus-building and party organisation.

That combination is not entirely new to Ganduje.

His years in public service, including his tenure as Governor of Kano State and later as National Chairman of the APC, have placed him at the intersection of government administration and party politics.

Even after leaving the national party leadership, he has remained involved in political consultations and efforts to promote cohesion among party stakeholders.

Familiar journey of faith
Beyond official and political engagements, Ganduje’s travels abroad have also traditionally been associated with a personal spiritual dimension.

Whenever circumstances permit, his international travels have often been followed by a journey to the Holy Land of Saudi Arabia for Umrah, the lesser pilgrimage, before his return to Nigeria.

For him, such journeys represent more than travel. They provide an opportunity for worship, reflection, seeking Allah’s blessings and strengthening his closeness to the Creator.

However, unless formally confirmed by Ganduje or his representatives, any specific plan or date for his next Umrah should be treated as personal expectation rather than an announced itinerary.

For Ganduje, the days ahead are therefore likely to remain a combination of institutional responsibilities, political consultations and, where circumstances permit, a return to the spiritual journey that has traditionally provided him with an opportunity to pause, reflect and seek divine guidance.
