Yusuf Leads Mass Wedding of 1,500 Widows, Young Women in Kano
Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, on Friday officiated the mass wedding of 1,500 widows and young women under the Kano State Government’s Mass Wedding Programme, coordinated by the Kano State Hisbah Board.
The initiative, according to the Governor, is a social intervention designed to restore hope, strengthen families and promote moral values across Kano State.
Governor Yusuf said the programme reflects his administration’s commitment to supporting vulnerable citizens by reducing the financial burden associated with marriage and enabling beneficiaries to establish dignified family lives in accordance with Islamic principles and Kano’s cultural values.

During the marriage solemnisation, the governor represented the first groom and formally sought the bride’s hand in marriage from her guardian, the Emir of Kano, Malam Muhammadu Sanusi II, who accepted the proposal in accordance with Islamic injunctions.
Earlier, the Emir delivered the Friday sermon, urging the newly married couples to build their homes on faith, patience, mutual respect and compassion, stressing that peaceful families are essential to a stable and prosperous society.
The Commander-General of the Kano State Hisbah Board, Sheikh Aminu Ibrahim Daurawa, said the beneficiaries underwent screening and counselling, while all religious and legal requirements were fulfilled before the marriages.
The Chief Imam of Kano, Professor Sani Zahraddeen, offered prayers for Allah’s guidance, blessings and lasting peace in the homes of the newly married couples.
Some beneficiaries expressed appreciation to Governor Yusuf, describing the programme as a life-changing opportunity that has given them renewed hope and the chance to begin a new chapter of their lives with dignity.
The Kano State Government said the mass wedding programme forms part of its broader social welfare efforts aimed at strengthening families and promoting a peaceful and cohesive society.
