Gunmen kill 30 in fresh attack on Kaduna community

At least 30 people have been confirmed dead following a fresh attack on Naridon Village in Kauru Local Government Area of Kaduna State, in what residents described as one of the latest incidents of violence to hit Southern Kaduna.

The attack, which occurred on Sunday night, reportedly claimed the lives of women and children, while several houses were razed, leaving the community devastated.

This was confirmed by two community sources, Ibrahim John and Mallam Katuka, in separate interviews with journalists.

Residents said at least 30 bodies had been recovered from the village as of the time of filing this report, warning that the death toll could rise as search and recovery efforts continue.

Photographs obtained from the affected community showed widespread destruction, with numerous residential buildings reduced to ashes.

The number of people injured or displaced had yet to be confirmed as authorities continued to assess the aftermath of the attack.

The latest incident has heightened concerns over the deteriorating security situation in Kauru Local Government Area and other vulnerable communities across Southern Kaduna.

Residents and community leaders have called on the Kaduna State Government, the Federal Government and security agencies to urgently deploy additional security personnel to the area and implement decisive measures to prevent further attacks.

The attack comes amid a recent wave of deadly violence and kidnappings across Southern Kaduna.

On Friday, reports indicated that at least eight people linked to two groups of hostages abducted from Ariko and Awon villages in Kachia Local Government Area died while in captivity.

According to journalist and former Kaduna State Government spokesperson, Reuben Buhari, seven of the deceased were among residents abducted from Ariko Village, while the eighth victim was a newborn delivered by a woman who was kidnapped from the neighbouring Awon Village.

The victims reportedly died after spending more than three months in captivity under harsh conditions, further underscoring the worsening insecurity confronting communities across Southern Kaduna.

As of the time of filing this report, security agencies and the Kaduna State Government had yet to issue an official statement on the latest attack.
