Horse ride: Kano CP commends emir Bayero for respecting security directives
The Kano State Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, has commended the 15th Emir of Kano, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero, for respecting the law and complying with directives issued by security authorities.
Bakori made the commendation on Wednesday during a courtesy visit to the 15th Emir of Kano at his palace in Nasarawa, Kano, where he also appealed to the monarch to suspend a planned horse-riding procession to Yakasai in the interest of peace and public safety.
The visit followed a formal notification earlier submitted by the 15th Emir of Kano informing security authorities of his intention to embark on the procession on Thursday to attend a Qur’anic graduation ceremony.
Speaking at the palace, Bakori said security authorities had required anyone intending to undertake a public horse-riding or Durbar activity to give at least 72 hours’ prior written notice. He, however, said the authorities were appealing to the 15th Emir of Kano to suspend the planned procession in the interest of peace and public safety.

The Commissioner urged the 15th Emir of Kano to travel to the event by vehicle, as he had traditionally done, stressing that security agencies were concerned about preventing anything that could create tension or threaten public peace in Kano.
Bakori described the 15th Emir of Kano as a law-abiding traditional ruler who had consistently respected security directives and prioritised peace.
He also appealed to Alhaji Aminu Babba Dan’agundi, Sarkin Dawaki Babba and Senior Councillor to the 15th Emir of Kano, to continue supporting the monarch and encouraging cooperation with security authorities.
Responding, the 15th Emir of Kano thanked the Commissioner and his delegation for the visit and assured them of his full cooperation.
The 15th Emir of Kano said the peace and stability of Kano remained a priority, adding that he would continue to support efforts aimed at maintaining public order.
The development comes amid the Kano Emirate dispute, which has previously triggered heightened security measures around the rival royal palaces, including restrictions placed around Gidan Rumfa Palace in December 2024.
