Nigeria Eyes Defence Manufacturing Hub as DICON-D7G Partners Eagles International

The Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria (DICON-D7G) has entered into a strategic partnership with Eagles International for Defence Systems to strengthen local military production, technology transfer and the development of Nigeria’s defence industrial complex.

The partnership facilitated a two-day inspection visit during which the Minister of State for Defence, Dr Bello Mohammed Matawalle, and his team toured factories in Cairo, Egypt, to inspect various military equipment and production facilities.

According to the Chief Executive Officer of DICON-D7G, Mr Osman Chennar, the collaboration is aimed at enhancing Nigeria’s capacity to produce military equipment locally while promoting technology transfer, skills development and employment opportunities.

Chennar said the partnership would create employment opportunities for more than 200 workers, in addition to providing opportunities for about 100 retired military personnel, while introducing modern production lines and advanced defence technologies to Nigeria.

He said the initiative was also designed to strengthen Nigeria’s position as a regional hub for military equipment production and supply, with the company planning the establishment of a large military jetty in Lagos.

According to him, the proposed facility in Lagos, Nigeria’s commercial capital, would serve as a major hub for the supply and distribution of military equipment to Nigeria and other African countries.

Chennar said the partnership between DICON-D7G and Eagles International for Defence Systems would provide Nigeria with access to a range of specialised military platforms and equipment, including armoured personnel carriers, multi-purpose armoured vehicles, medical evacuation and ambulance platforms, and mortar systems.

Other equipment identified under the partnership include the MRAP-Buffalo U.10/Diesel Manual Armoured Vehicle, MRAP-Buffalo M.12 (2+10) Diesel Manual, MRAP-Buffalo F-4 (2+2), Rhino Guard GXR advanced anti-drone and RPG armoured vehicle, APC-Moon PT6 (2+6), GXR-Phantom light vehicle and BMP-2 Infantry Fighting Vehicle.

The DICON-D7G chief executive said the collaboration was part of broader efforts to develop a sustainable military-industrial ecosystem capable of meeting Nigeria’s defence requirements while reducing dependence on imported military equipment.

He added that the partnership would also support the training of young Nigerians and the development of local technical expertise needed to sustain domestic defence manufacturing.

The initiative is expected to contribute to the Federal Government’s broader drive to strengthen Nigeria’s defence industry, expand local manufacturing capacity, create employment and position the country to participate more actively in Africa’s growing defence production and supply market.
