WAEC: 1.2 Million Candidates Secure Five Credits in 2026 WASSCE

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has announced that 1,200,514 candidates who sat the 2026 Computer-Based West African Senior School Certificate Examination (CB-WASSCE) for School Candidates obtained credits in at least five subjects, including English Language and Mathematics.

The Head of the Nigeria National Office of WAEC, Dr. Amos Dangut, disclosed this on Wednesday while announcing the release of the examination results in Lagos.

According to Dangut, a total of 1,950,726 candidates sat the examination across Nigeria, out of which 1,834,695, representing 94.05 per cent, had their results fully processed and released.

He, however, said the results of 167,486 candidates, representing 8.59 per cent of those who sat the examination, had been withheld over alleged examination malpractice.

Dangut also disclosed that 116,031 candidates, representing 5.95 per cent, still have one or more subjects being processed due to issues currently being resolved.

He assured affected candidates that the Council was intensifying efforts to complete the processing and release the outstanding results within the next few days.

Giving a breakdown of candidates’ performance, Dangut said 1,687,378 candidates, representing 86.50 per cent, obtained credit passes in at least five subjects, with or without English Language and Mathematics.

He added that 1,200,514 candidates, representing 61.54 per cent of those who sat the examination, obtained credits in a minimum of five subjects, including English Language and Mathematics, the benchmark commonly required for admission into tertiary institutions in Nigeria.

The 2026 examination marked WAEC’s continued implementation of the Computer-Based WASSCE for school candidates as part of efforts to strengthen the conduct and integrity of its examinations.
