Pantami emerges Gombe PDP governorship candidate amid earlier opposition

Former Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Professor Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami, has emerged as the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Gombe State ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Pantami secured the party’s ticket through a voice affirmation by delegates during the PDP governorship primary election held on Tuesday in Gombe.

Announcing the outcome of the exercise, Chairman of the PDP Electoral Panel, Gregory Yenlong, declared Pantami winner of the primary, noting that he emerged as the sole aspirant in the contest.

His emergence followed days of political tension within the party after four PDP governorship aspirants in the state publicly opposed his alleged entry into the race.

The aspirants had earlier warned against allowing Pantami into the PDP governorship contest after reportedly participating in the governorship primary election of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

They argued that such a development could expose the party to legal disputes and internal political challenges ahead of the 2027 elections.

Despite the earlier opposition and controversy surrounding his alleged defection and participation in the race, Pantami eventually secured the PDP ticket unopposed.
