Former Kano State Governor and elder statesman, Malam Ibrahim Shekarau, has reflected deeply on his life as he turned 70, emphasizing the importance of forgiveness, patience, and gratitude to God as essential virtues for achieving inner peace and a meaningful life.
Speaking during a media chat with journalists in Kano on Wednesday, Shekarau said that his journey through moments of joy and hardship had taught him valuable lessons and that true tranquility lies in faith, humility, and forgiveness.
“I have forgiven everyone who has wronged me, and I seek forgiveness from all those I may have wronged. I don’t know if I have much to leave behind, but I have learned countless lessons over these 70 years — both good and bad. The teachings of Islam have guided me along the right path, and that is what I am most proud of,” Shekarau stated.

The former governor expressed deep gratitude to Almighty Allah for granting him long life, describing it as a divine gift that only God can bestow.
“I thank Allah for granting me life up to this moment. It is indeed one of His great blessings, and I am truly grateful,” he said.
Shekarau also urged Nigerians, especially the youth, to live peacefully and avoid violence or conflict in pursuit of worldly desires.
“Do not fight anyone just because you want to achieve your desires — that is not justice in life,” he cautioned.
