The Kano State Government has announced the suspension of the monthly environmental sanitation exercise earlier scheduled to hold on Saturday, October 25, 2025.
This was contained in a statement issued on Friday by the Director of Public Enlightenment, Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, Maryam Abdulkadir.
According to the statement, the State Commissioner for Environment and Climate Change, Dr. Dahir Muhammad Hashim, said the decision was taken due to the Kano Festival — a major cultural celebration showcasing the state’s heritage, customs, and traditional values.

He explained that the festival, expected to attract dignitaries, cultural troupes, and visitors from within and outside the state, made it necessary to allow free movement of people and vehicles across the city.
While announcing the suspension, Dr. Hashim reaffirmed the government’s commitment to promoting cleanliness, hygiene, and environmental protection across all 44 local government areas of the state.
He urged residents to continue observing proper waste disposal practices despite the temporary suspension, stressing that environmental cleanliness remains a key priority of the Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf-led administration.
The ministry added that the decision would also enable residents to fully participate in the festival, which celebrates the unity, culture, and resilience of the people of Kano.
