Kano
SO MANY REASONS TO SUPPORT CONTINUITY FOR ABBA KABIR YUSUF
By Comrade Najeeb Nasir Ibrahim
There are moments in the history of every society when leadership must be assessed not only by promises, but by the direction of development, the projects on the ground and the policies that are being implemented.
For me, the conversation about the future of Kano State should be centred on one important principle: continuity of development.
Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s administration has embarked on programmes and projects across education, healthcare, infrastructure, agriculture, human capital development and other sectors. The argument for continuity is therefore not simply about politics; it is about giving ongoing programmes the opportunity to mature, completing projects already underway and building on policies that citizens are already experiencing.
1. CONTINUITY MEANS COMPLETING WHAT HAS BEEN STARTED
Kano is too important to repeatedly abandon development plans whenever political leadership changes.
The state government reported more than 1,500 projects across the 44 local government areas, covering roads, education, healthcare, water, agriculture and other sectors.
Where projects are already underway, the people deserve completion rather than unnecessary interruption.

A project that serves the people should not become a casualty of political transition.
2. EDUCATION NEEDS SUSTAINED INVESTMENT
Education is the foundation of Kano’s future.
The Yusuf administration has made teacher recruitment and educational infrastructure major areas of intervention. Thousands of teachers have been recruited, while government programmes have continued to address challenges within the education sector.
But education cannot be transformed overnight.
It requires years of consistent investment, supervision and improvement.
That is why continuity matters.
3. INFRASTRUCTURE IS CONNECTING COMMUNITIES
From urban roads to rural connections, infrastructure remains essential to Kano’s economic development.
Roads connect farmers to markets, students to schools, workers to places of employment and businesses to customers.
The administration’s continued approval of major road projects demonstrates the scale of infrastructure needs in the state.
For supporters of continuity, the objective is straightforward:
Complete the roads. Expand the roads. Maintain the roads. Open new economic opportunities for our people.
4. HEALTHCARE CANNOT WAIT
Healthcare is another area where consistency matters.
The state has continued to approve funds for the rehabilitation and upgrading of healthcare facilities, including efforts to strengthen primary healthcare centres.
The people of Kano need functional hospitals, qualified personnel, medicines, equipment and accessible healthcare.
These are not achievements that should be measured only during election seasons. They require sustained commitment.
5. AGRICULTURE AND FOOD SECURITY
Kano is an agricultural powerhouse.
The future of the state depends heavily on improving agricultural productivity, supporting farmers, expanding irrigation, strengthening markets and creating opportunities for young people within the agricultural value chain.
A government that invests today in agriculture is investing in tomorrow’s food security and economic stability.
Continuity provides an opportunity to strengthen such programmes and expand them across more communities.
6. YOUTH EMPOWERMENT MUST CONTINUE
Kano has one of the largest populations of young people in Nigeria.
The question is not whether young people need opportunities. They clearly do.
The real question is how government can continue creating pathways through education, skills acquisition, entrepreneurship, employment and productive economic activity.
Any programme that genuinely creates opportunities for young people deserves serious attention and, where effective, sustained support.
7. GOVERNMENT SHOULD HAVE TIME TO CONSOLIDATE REFORMS
No administration can solve every problem in a single term.
Some reforms take years before their full impact becomes visible.
This is why continuity should not be viewed merely as an electoral slogan. It can also mean giving policies that are producing results the opportunity to mature, while correcting areas where improvement is required.
Continuity should mean consolidation, not complacency.
8. KANO NEEDS DEVELOPMENT BEYOND POLITICAL DIVISIONS
Politics will always produce disagreements.
But development should unite us.
Whether someone supports APC, NNPP, PDP or another political platform, every Kano citizen wants good roads, quality education, accessible healthcare, security, employment and economic opportunities.
The most important question should therefore be:
What direction can best sustain development and serve the people of Kano?
9. THE PEOPLE’S INTEREST MUST COME FIRST
My support for continuity is rooted in one simple principle:
Kano First.
Political personalities will come and go. Political parties will change. But Kano will remain.
Therefore, any development agenda that benefits ordinary citizens should receive our attention, scrutiny and support.
We should support what works, demand accountability where necessary and encourage government to do even more.
10. THE WORK SHOULD CONTINUE
Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s supporters believe that the administration has established a development direction that deserves continuity.
Their argument is that ongoing projects should be completed, reforms should be consolidated and successful programmes should be expanded.
That is the essence of the continuity argument.
Not politics for politics’ sake.
Not continuity for the sake of an individual.
But continuity of development, continuity of service and continuity of programmes that improve the lives of ordinary people.
MY POSITION
As a citizen and public affairs commentator, I believe Kano deserves a development agenda that does not stop halfway.
Where government is doing well, we should acknowledge it.
Where there are shortcomings, we should speak honestly.
Where projects are unfinished, we should demand completion.
And where policies are benefiting the people, we should encourage their continuation and expansion.
For these reasons, I stand with the call for continuity for Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, with the conviction that Kano should build on its ongoing development rather than constantly starting from zero.
Kano First.
Development First.
Continuity for Progress.
