Tinubu Names Abel Enitan New Head of Civil Service
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of Dr. Abel Olumuyiwa Enitan as the new Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, effective August 27, 2026.
Enitan will succeed the outgoing Head of Service, Dr. Didi Esther Walson-Jack, who is stepping down upon reaching the mandatory retirement age of 60.

Currently serving as the Permanent Secretary in the Federal Ministry of Education, Enitan stands as the most senior Permanent Secretary within the Federal Civil Service. His career as Permanent Secretary spans over seven years, with key postings across the Ministry of Police Affairs, the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, and the Office of the Vice President. The Presidency noted that his extensive background equips him with deep institutional knowledge and a comprehensive understanding of federal operations.
President Tinubu extended his gratitude to Dr. Walson-Jack for her dedicated public service, praising the landmark reforms, innovations, and structural impact achieved during her leadership, and wished her a fulfilling retirement.

Addressing the incoming chief, President Tinubu charged Enitan to consolidate ongoing reforms while driving greater professionalism, efficiency, and accountability across all ministries, departments, and agencies. The President emphasized that a merit-driven, highly responsive civil service is critical to fulfilling the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
Born on December 12, 1966, Enitan hails from Osun State. He completed his secondary education at Ajibode Grammar School, Ibadan, and the College of Arts and Science, Ile-Ife, before earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance and Banking from the University of Lagos in 1988. He later obtained a Master of Science degree in Public Policy Analysis from Nasarawa State University, Lafia, in 2015.
