The National Association of All Progressives Congress (APC) Political Polling Unit Agents has announced plans to strengthen grassroots mobilisation, coordination and election monitoring ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The association, established by Yusuf Muhammad Abdulkadir, is designed to unite and empower APC polling unit agents while promoting effective participation, voter mobilisation, electoral education and party loyalty across Nigeria.

Speaking in an interview with ‘The Historica Nigeria on Sunday, Abdulkadir said the initiative was established to provide a coordinated platform through which polling unit agents could become more effective in protecting the interests of the ruling party during elections.

He said the association was conceived against the backdrop of challenges including alleged collusion among some agents, inadequate coordination, weak structures and insufficient monitoring of electoral activities.

According to him, strengthening the polling unit structure is essential to ensuring that the APC has an organised presence at the grassroots during elections.

“We established this movement to serve as a facilitating platform to save the ruling party,” Abdulkadir said.

He explained that the association had established leadership structures across the country, covering all six geopolitical zones, with the aim of creating an effective chain of coordination from the national level down to individual polling units.

Mobilising across the grassroots

Abdulkadir said the strength of the association would be its ability to mobilise physical members across communities and polling units, particularly in areas where election-day activities require strong organisation and coordination.

He said the group was prepared to reach communities across the country and support the APC through grassroots mobilisation, election monitoring and engagement with party members.

“Our strength is our ability to move and struggle in all the nooks and crannies to support the platform with physical members who will help decide the election,” he said.

He added that the association was committed to supporting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s bid for a second term in office in 2027.

From student unionism to political mobilisation

Abdulkadir also attributed part of his experience in organising the new platform to his background in student union leadership.

He said his involvement in student union activities helped him develop organisational and mobilisation skills, which he has now applied to building the polling unit agents’ association.

According to him, the experience made it easier to establish structures capable of bringing people together around a common political objective.

Open to collaboration

The founder further said the association was open to working with other groups and individuals within the APC who share similar objectives.

He described collaboration as necessary for building a stronger grassroots structure and ensuring that party supporters and polling unit agents are adequately organised ahead of the 2027 elections.

Abdulkadir said the association would continue to expand its structures nationwide while working towards greater coordination, participation and effectiveness among APC polling unit agents.

He maintained that a properly organised polling unit structure would remain critical to the party’s ability to mobilise voters, monitor elections and protect its interests at the grassroots.
