Former Kano State Governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, on Monday hosted a delegation of the Nigeria Democratic Congress at his residence in Abuja, in a development that has intensified political realignment talks ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Among those received was the party’s National Vice Chairman (North-West), Mohammed Bakin, alongside other chieftains of the platform.
Sources within the Kwankwasiyya movement disclosed that the delegation used the visit to urge Kwankwaso to consider joining the NDC as part of efforts to strengthen the party’s position ahead of the next electoral cycle.
The meeting comes amid growing speculation over possible alliances among opposition figures, including reports suggesting that Kwankwaso and Peter Obi, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party, may be exploring a joint ticket.

The speculation gained further traction last week with the unveiling of the “OK Movement,” a platform created by supporters of both politicians to mobilise support for a potential collaboration in 2027.
Meanwhile, the African Democratic Congress, where Kwankwaso has been politically linked, is currently grappling with an internal leadership crisis that could affect its preparedness for the upcoming elections.
On April 22, the Supreme Court reserved judgment in an appeal filed by a faction led by David Mark over the party’s leadership dispute against another faction headed by Nafi’u Bala.
In a related development, the Independent National Electoral Commission has fixed May 30, 2026, as the deadline for political parties to submit membership registers and nominate candidates for the 2027 elections.
However, several opposition parties, including factions of the Peoples Democratic Party and the New Nigeria Peoples Party, have called on the electoral body to extend the timeline for party primaries to the end of July, arguing that the current schedule may disadvantage them.
