Hauwa Zahradden makes history as NUJ Kano’s first female secretary

Veteran journalist Hauwa Zahradden has made history as the first woman to emerge as Secretary of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Kano State Council.

Her emergence was disclosed in a statement issued by the Kano State chapter of the National Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ).

According to the statement, Zahradden previously served as Deputy Secretary of the NUJ Kano State Council before her emergence as Secretary.

NAWOJ described the development as a significant milestone for women journalists in Kano, saying her emergence would encourage greater participation of female journalists in union leadership and strengthen their representation within the organisation.

The association expressed optimism that Zahradden’s new position would further deepen collaboration between the NUJ and NAWOJ in promoting professional development, welfare and leadership opportunities for journalists, particularly women.

NAWOJ also congratulated Zahradden on the achievement, describing her emergence as an important step towards greater inclusion of women in the leadership of the journalists’ union.

The association expressed hope that her elevation would inspire more women journalists to participate actively in union affairs and aspire to leadership positions within the profession.
