How Gunmen Killed Army Colonel, Shot Wife in Abuja

A serving officer of the Nigerian Army Intelligence Corps, Colonel Abdussalam Ude, has been killed after gunmen attacked his residence in the Kurudu area of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.

The incident reportedly occurred on Monday evening when the senior military officer returned home from work and was ambushed by armed assailants.

Sources said the gunmen attempted to abduct either the officer or members of his family, but Colonel Ude resisted, leading to a confrontation during which he was shot dead.

His wife also sustained gunshot injuries, while his driver and security guard were wounded in the attack and rushed to hospital for treatment.

The late officer, who hailed from Enugu State, was described by colleagues as a disciplined, dedicated and professional intelligence officer who was widely respected within the military. He was reportedly due for promotion next year.

Military authorities have commenced investigations to unravel the circumstances surrounding the attack and identify those responsible.

Before his death, Colonel Ude served in several strategic intelligence and counter-terrorism positions within the Armed Forces of Nigeria.

Police Arrest Three Over Mob Killing in Plateau

Meanwhile, the Plateau State Police Command has arrested three suspects over the alleged mob killing of a 25-year-old model, Ibrahim Mbaya, popularly known as “Ibee.”

Mbaya, a graduate of the University of Jos, was allegedly beaten to death after being accused of stealing a mobile phone at an apartment in the Ring Road area of Jos.

According to reports, the deceased had attended a social gathering before spending the night at a friend’s residence. The following morning, he was accused of stealing an iPhone after it was discovered missing.

Eyewitnesses alleged that Mbaya returned to the apartment after receiving a phone call from his friend, only to be confronted by several young men who reportedly tortured and assaulted him for hours in an attempt to force a confession.

He reportedly became unconscious during the assault and was later confirmed dead after being taken to the Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH).

Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer in Plateau State, Alfred Alabo, said officers responded to a report from a Good Samaritan and found that the victim had been brought to the hospital unconscious, where doctors confirmed him dead on arrival.

He said the victim’s body has been deposited in the hospital mortuary for autopsy, while detectives arrested three suspects identified as Rinji Fwanji, Emmanuel Newyear and Nensemka Fwanji in connection with the alleged culpable homicide.

The incidents have renewed concerns over insecurity and mob violence, with calls for security agencies to ensure that those responsible are brought to justice.
