Kano moves to restore pioneer science schools following alumni intervention

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has approved the general rehabilitation of the state’s pioneer Science Secondary Schools following an appeal by the alumni of Government Science Secondary School, Dawakin Tofa, and the Kano Science Schools Old Students Association (KASSOSA), Dawakin Tofa Chapter.

The development was disclosed after feedback was received from the Governor in response to concerns raised by stakeholders over the deteriorating condition of some of the state’s historic science colleges.

According to the information made available, Governor Yusuf has directed the Ministry of Education to commence the process for the comprehensive rehabilitation of the affected schools, with work expected to begin soon.

The intervention is being viewed as part of the administration’s commitment to revitalizing the education sector and improving learning conditions in public schools across the state.

The leadership of KASSOSA, Dawakin Tofa Chapter, was particularly commended for drawing government attention to the urgent need for intervention in the schools, which have produced thousands of professionals and leaders over the decades.

Report says that the planned rehabilitation would help restore the status of the pioneer science schools and provide a more conducive learning environment for students.

The development also recalls the recent renovation of Day Science College, Kano, undertaken by the Kano State Government following sustained calls by media organizations and education stakeholders on the need to improve facilities in the institution.
