Ganduje inaugurates humanitarian air terminal, tours FAAN clinic project

The immediate past National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Chairperson of the Board of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, on Thursday commissioned the newly completed United Nations Humanitarian Air Service (UNHAS)/World Food Programme (WFP) Terminal Building at the General Muhammadu Buhari International Airport, Maiduguri.

Dr. Ganduje, who was accompanied by the Managing Director and Chief Executive of FAAN, Mrs. Olubunmi Kuku, described the terminal as a strategic investment that would strengthen humanitarian air operations and improve service delivery across Nigeria’s North-East region.

He noted that the facility would enhance the capacity of humanitarian organisations operating in the region, particularly in delivering timely assistance to communities affected by insecurity and other humanitarian challenges.

During the visit, the FAAN Board Chairman also inspected the ongoing construction of a modern airport clinic designed to improve healthcare services for airport users, aviation personnel and other stakeholders.

Expressing satisfaction with the quality and pace of work, Dr. Ganduje commended the contractors for the progress recorded so far and urged them to sustain the momentum to ensure the project’s timely completion.

He reaffirmed FAAN’s commitment to modernising airport infrastructure across the country through strategic investments and partnerships aimed at enhancing operational efficiency, passenger comfort and aviation safety.

The visit also underscored the Authority’s resolve to strengthen infrastructure that supports both commercial aviation and humanitarian operations, particularly in regions requiring sustained emergency and relief interventions.

Dr. Ganduje reiterated that the development of modern airport facilities remains a key component of FAAN’s efforts to position Nigeria’s aviation sector as a driver of national development and regional connectivity.
