Ali Makoda commends Gaya Polytechnic committee, assures ministry’s backing

The Kano State Commissioner for Education, Gwani Dr. Ali Haruna Makoda, has reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to supporting the development of Gaya Polytechnic and strengthening the education sector across the state.

Dr. Makoda gave the assurance on Tuesday when he received members of the Gaya Polytechnic Committee, led by former Vice Chancellor Northwest University Kano, Professor Mukhtar Atiku Kurawa, during a courtesy visit to his office.

The meeting, which marked the Commissioner’s first official engagement with the committee, provided an opportunity for members to formally introduce themselves and present their strategic plans aimed at enhancing the administration, growth and overall development of the institution.

Speaking during the meeting, the Chairman of the Committee, Professor Atiku Kurawa, briefed the Commissioner on the progress recorded so far and outlined key initiatives being implemented to ensure the sustainable development of Gaya Polytechnic.

Kurawa said the committee remains committed to repositioning the institution through effective planning, improved administration and policies designed to enhance academic and institutional performance.

In his remarks, Dr. Makoda expressed satisfaction with the committee’s commitment, professionalism and dedication to its assignment, describing its efforts as vital to the advancement of technical and higher education in Kano State.

The Commissioner commended the members for their vision and determination to improve the institution, noting that their work aligns with the state government’s objective of strengthening educational standards and expanding access to quality learning opportunities.

He assured the committee of the Ministry of Education’s full cooperation and support, pledging to provide the necessary assistance required to achieve its goals.

Dr. Makoda reiterated the commitment of the Kano State Government to promoting educational development and ensuring that institutions such as Gaya Polytechnic are adequately positioned to contribute to human capital development and socio-economic growth.

The meeting ended with a renewed commitment by both the Ministry and the committee to work collaboratively towards advancing the institution and improving educational outcomes in Kano State.

Recalls the Gaya Polytechnic Establishment Bill is a law enacted by the Kano State House of Assembly and assented to by Abba Kabir Yusuf to establish Gaya Polytechnic in Gaya Local Government Area of Kano State. The bill was signed into law on 14 November 2025 after passing through the legislative process in the State Assembly.
