Tinubu Approves Kunle Elebute’s Appointment as FRCN Governing Board Chairman

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of renowned chartered accountant and financial management consultant, Mr. Kunle Elebute, as Chairman of the Governing Board of the Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria (FRCN).

The appointment was announced in a statement published on the Presidency’s official X handle on Thursday, which stated that the move is aimed at strengthening corporate governance, enhancing investor confidence, and promoting greater transparency and accountability within Nigeria’s financial reporting system.

According to the statement, the appointment underscores the Federal Government’s commitment to building a more credible and investment-friendly business environment through stronger regulatory oversight and improved corporate reporting standards.

Elebute, a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria, brings over four decades of professional experience across Nigeria, West Africa, and international markets.

He previously served as Senior Partner and Chief Executive Officer of , Chairman of , and Chairman of . He also held positions on KPMG’s regional and global boards, including membership of the Global Board Audit Committee.

The Presidency described Elebute as a highly respected professional with extensive expertise in audit, financial advisory services, risk consulting, corporate governance, and strategic transformation.

Over the years, he has advised major institutions across sectors such as financial services, infrastructure, healthcare, consumer goods, energy, and the public sector. He has also contributed to national policy development through participation in several government committees and initiatives, including banking sector reforms and corporate governance improvements.

The statement highlighted the critical role played by the Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria in setting and enforcing standards related to financial reporting, auditing, valuation, actuarial practice, and corporate governance.

According to the Presidency, the Council remains central to promoting market integrity, protecting investors, and sustaining confidence in Nigeria’s economy.

The government noted that Elebute’s appointment comes at a crucial period as the FRCN advances key institutional priorities, including ongoing engagements under the UK-Nigeria Enhanced Trade and Investment Partnership and efforts to align Nigeria’s corporate reporting framework with international best practices.

President Tinubu expressed confidence that Elebute’s wealth of experience, leadership capacity, and governance expertise would strengthen the Council’s mandate and support the administration’s economic reform agenda.

The Federal Government stated that the appointment aligns with the objectives of the Renewed Hope Agenda, particularly in building a more transparent, competitive, and investment-friendly economy capable of attracting local and foreign investment.
