‘They Received More in Six Months Than I Did in Eight Years’ — Ganduje Blasts Yusuf

The immediate past governor of Kano State, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has accused his successor, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, of mismanaging state funds despite receiving what he described as unprecedented federal allocations. Speaking after a stakeholders’ meeting of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano, Ganduje alleged that the Yusuf-led administration had received more money in just six months than his government got throughout his eight years in office, yet with little to show for it. “When I took over power, I never wasted time probing my predecessor. Governance doesn’t end with one administration,” Ganduje said. “But Abba Yusuf started his government with probes. Tell me, what have they uncovered? They’ve received more money in six months than my administration saw in eight years. Yet what have they achieved?” The former APC National Chairman accused the current government of reckless spending, insisting that funds were being channeled into projects without real value for money. Renewed Hope: Dingyadi, Dan Agundi Empower Youths with Motorcycles, Food Items

The Federal Government has distributed 350 motorcycles for dispatch riders and food items to 10,000 youths under the Renewed Hope empowerment initiative. The initiative was jointly launched in Kano by the Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr. Muhammad Maigari Dingyadi, and the Director General of the National Productivity Centre (NPC), Dr. Baffa Babba Dan Agundi. Speaking at the event, Dr. Dingyadi commended Dr. Dan Agundi for what he described as visionary and exemplary leadership, stressing that the programme reflects the people-centered policies of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda. As the 10th edition of the National Quiz Competition on Legislature and Democracy 2025 concluded in Kano, Governor’s College emerged as the overall winner, earning the right to represent Kano State at the forthcoming North West National Quiz Competition. This was contained in a statement issued by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s Special Adviser on Information, Ibrahim Adam. According to Ibrahim Adam, the competition, organized by the National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies (NILDS) under the supervision of the National Assembly, Abuja, is aimed at deepening the knowledge of Nigeria’s youth about the role of the legislative arm in promoting democracy. Suleiman, represented by the Programme State Coordinator, Aliyu Abdullahi, declared Governor’s College as first, Government Girls Secondary School Gwarzo as second, and Government Secondary School Rano as third. Professor Suleiman recalled that the first edition of the quiz was held in 2016 within the Federal Capital Territory, and following directives of the Institute’s Governing Council, it has since been expanded to all states of the federation, with this year marking its 10th edition. Certificates of attendance were presented to participating schools, while winners received prizes. The statement further highlighted that Governor’s College was originally established during the second tenure of Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso in 2011, but its fortunes dwindled over time until Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, upon assumption of office in 2023, revived its infrastructure and restored its glory, leading to this current success. Kano Governor Nominates Two New Commissioners, Appoints Solicitor-General

Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has forwarded the names of two nominees to the State House of Assembly for confirmation as commissioners and members of the state executive council. The governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, announced the nominations in a statement issued on Saturday. One of the nominees is Barrister Abdulkarim Kabir Maude, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) designate from Minjibir Local Government Area, who is set to be officially conferred with the prestigious rank at the Supreme Court tomorrow. He also holds advanced degrees in International Economic Law from Maryam Abacha American University of Niger and in Business Commercial Law from Bayero University, Kano. Also nominated is Dr. Aliyu Isa Aliyu, 41, an Associate Professor of Allied Mathematics and Statistician-General of the Kano State Bureau of Statistics. A product of the Kwankwasiyya foreign scholarship scheme, Dr. Aliyu obtained his Ph.D. in Mathematics from Firat University in Turkey, after earlier degrees from Bayero University, Kano, and the Jordan University of Science and Technology. His academic career spans institutions in Nigeria, China, and Cyprus, including a postdoctoral fellowship at Sun Yat-Sen University in China. He also served as the Financial Secretary of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in Kano State before joining public service. In a separate development, Governor Yusuf approved the appointment of Barrister Salisu Muhammad Tahir as Solicitor-General and Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Justice. Until his new role, Tahir was the Director of Public Prosecution at the ministry. The Head of Service has been directed to complete all administrative processes to enable Barrister Tahir assume duty by Monday, September 29, 2025. Kano Govt Dismisses False Reports on NECO SSCE Ranking

The Kano State Government has refuted reports circulating on some online news platforms alleging that the state did not emerge as the best-performing state in the 2025 NECO Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (SSCE). In a statement signed by the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, **Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya**, the government described the reports as “misleading, malicious, and a calculated attempt to distort the facts” presented by the National Examinations Council (NECO). According to the Commissioner, during the official release of the 2025 results, the Registrar/Chief Executive of NECO, **Professor Dantani Ibrahim Wushishi**, explicitly announced that Kano State produced the highest number of successful candidates with five credits, including Mathematics and English Language. The government maintained that contrary to selective data interpretations being peddled, the NECO Registrar’s pronouncement remains the most authoritative and credible declaration for determining states’ performance. “The claim that some other state topped the performance table is a gross misrepresentation of facts and an attempt to manipulate public perception, as well as diminish the positive image the state enjoys due to the stellar performance of its students,” it added. Waiya further noted that the remarkable achievements of Kano students in the 2025 NECO SSCE reflect the deliberate interventions of Governor **Abba Kabir Yusuf’s administration**, which has consistently placed education at the core of its reform agenda through investments in infrastructure, teacher motivation, and student support. “No amount of propaganda or politically motivated conspiracy can rewrite the truth. Kano State remains the most successful state in the 2025 NECO SSCE, and history has already recorded this milestone,” the statement emphasized. An Open Letter to the Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Federal Republic of Nigeria

We, the undersigned, write to unequivocally raise an alarm on a purported plan by a highly influential person in the Kano Emirate Council to file a case in court and secure an order to arrest us for posting our opinions on social media regarding the issue of the Kano emirship tussle. First, information at our disposal indicates that the influential person intends to use the good office of the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) to obtain the order. It is in view of this that we draw the attention of the AGF to exercise caution in handling any matter related to the ongoing Kano emirate tussle in the event the planned petition reaches his desk. The office of the AGF should not be allowed to be politicized or used by someone to achieve his personal gains. Since the Kano emirate matter is currently before a court of law, the AGF, as the highest-ranking officer in the judicial arm of government, is not expected to interfere in any matter that is sub judice. Second, we have also discovered that after obtaining the court order, the man will use a high-ranking police officer to arrest us. As law-abiding citizens, we are not above the law, and if any authority extends a legal and genuine invitation to us on any matter, we will certainly honor it. However, we should not be denied our fundamental rights to freedom of speech or movement in order to please someone. Therefore, we are drawing the attention of the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to this purported plan, which seeks to use police officers to infringe on our constitutionally guaranteed rights. We therefore put the IGP on notice about this purported plan by the influential person to suppress our freedom of expression. Third, the same influential man is reportedly planning to drag the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) into the Kano emirate tussle to achieve his personal objectives. He is said to be working closely with a Kano-based renowned Islamic scholar and Chief Imam of a Juma’at Mosque in an effort to involve the President of the NSCIA in the ongoing matter. With a high sense of humility and respect, we passionately appeal to the President of the NSCIA not to allow himself to be dragged into the tussle. The NSCIA, as the highest and most respected religious body in Nigeria, should not permit itself to be politicized or aligned with this issue. It should remain a neutral religious body, above the fray of political conflicts. Finally, it is our hope and prayer that the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF), the Inspector General of Police (IGP), and the President of the NSCIA will remain neutral on this matter and allow the court of law to do its job as enshrined in the Nigerian Constitution. Imam Sukairaj Preaches on Parents’ Role as Gateway to Allah’s Blessings

The Chief Imam of ARTV Juma’at Mosque, Hotoro, Sukairaj Hafiz Imam, has urged children to show gratitude and appreciation to their parents for the sacrifices made in bringing them into the world and caring for them during their early years. Delivering his sermon during Friday prayers, Imam Sukairaj emphasized that Islam places a high value on honouring parents, stressing that gratitude to one’s father and mother is inseparable from gratitude to Allah. He quoted from the Qur’an: “And We have enjoined upon man [care] for his parents. His mother carried him, [increasing her] in weakness upon weakness, and his weaning is in two years. Be grateful to Me and to your parents; to Me is the [final] destination” (Qur’an 31:14). He explained that mothers, in particular, endure hardship during pregnancy, childbirth, and nursing, while fathers consistently sacrifice to provide food, shelter, and education for their children. Imam Sukairaj urged the younger generation to demonstrate appreciation through obedience, prayer, respect, and care for their parents, especially in old age. He warned that neglecting or showing arrogance toward parents is a grave sin that could deprive children of Allah’s blessings. “Your parents carried burdens so you could stand on your feet. They sacrificed their comfort so you could grow. To appreciate them is an act of faith, while to neglect them is a betrayal of divine trust,” he told the congregation. The Imam added that the reminder was especially relevant in today’s society, where modern pressures often erode traditional family values. He stressed the need for children to remain dutiful and connected to their parents despite social and economic challenges.

APC’s Public Relations Officer in Kano, Ahmed Aruwa, described Kwankwaso’s remarks as misleading, insisting the party has neither sought nor welcomed his return. He stressed that membership has “proper channels and procedures,” not public demands. Association of Local Government Information Officers Honours Governor Yusuf

Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has been honoured with an Award of Excellence as the “Best Supportive Governor in Grassroots Information Development and Effective Governance” by the Association of Local Government Information Officers in Nigeria. This was disclosed in a statement signed by Idris Zakariya’u, Director of Public Enlightenment at the Ministry of Information and Internal Affairs, who said the award was presented during the association’s annual national conference in Abuja on September 24, 2025.
