The Kano State Government has presented its comprehensive Urban Development Strategy Plan to ambassadors and representatives of the European Union (EU) as part of efforts to strengthen international partnerships and attract investments for sustainable urban development.
The presentation was made during a high-level engagement with a European Union delegation led by the EU Ambassador to Nigeria, Ambassador Gautier Mignot.
Representing Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf at the event, the Deputy Governor of Kano State, Comrade Murtala Sule Garo, reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to transforming Kano into a modern, resilient and economically vibrant urban centre through strategic planning, infrastructure development and inclusive governance.
Garo said the Urban Development Strategy Plan provides a comprehensive framework for addressing critical urban challenges facing the state, including rapid population growth, housing deficits, transportation systems, waste management, climate resilience and the provision of essential public services.

According to him, the strategy aligns with global best practices and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) while taking into consideration the unique realities and aspirations of Kano residents.
He explained that the plan represents a long-term vision designed to guide coordinated investments in urban infrastructure, economic development and social welfare across the state.
The Deputy Governor emphasized the importance of collaboration with international development partners, donor agencies and private-sector investors in achieving the objectives of the strategy.
“The Urban Development Strategy Plan represents our administration’s commitment to building a modern and sustainable Kano. We believe that strategic partnerships and investments are critical to realizing this vision and improving the quality of life of our citizens,” he said.
Members of the European Union delegation commended the Kano State Government for its proactive approach to urban planning and sustainable development.
They expressed interest in exploring areas of collaboration that could support the successful implementation of the strategy and contribute to improved living standards across the state.
Garo noted that the engagement marked another milestone in the state government’s efforts to deepen international cooperation and attract strategic investments capable of driving inclusive economic growth and long-term prosperity.
He reiterated the commitment of the administration of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf to building a smart, sustainable and globally competitive urban environment that creates opportunities for residents and future generations.
