The House of Representatives has summoned Nigeria’s service chiefs and the National Security Adviser (NSA), Malam Nuhu Ribadu, to appear before lawmakers over the worsening security situation across the country.
The resolution was adopted during Tuesday’s plenary following a motion sponsored by Hon. Sulaiman Gumi, who represents the Gummi/Bukkuyum Federal Constituency of Zamfara State.
Lawmakers expressed concern over the increasing incidents of banditry, terrorism, kidnappings, and other violent crimes affecting several parts of the country, resulting in the loss of lives and property.

The House resolved to invite the nation’s top security officials to provide a comprehensive briefing on ongoing efforts to address the security challenges and measures being taken to protect citizens.
The decision comes amid growing public concern over the continued attacks by bandits and terrorists, who have carried out deadly assaults and abductions in various states.
Recent incidents have triggered renewed calls from some Nigerians for a review of the country’s security architecture, with some groups urging President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to consider changes in the leadership of the security agencies.
Lawmakers, however, emphasized the need for urgent and coordinated action to stem the tide of insecurity and restore public confidence in the nation’s security system.
