Aminu Gidado Yusha’u Appointed Kano ACReSAL Project Coordinator

Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has approved the appointment of Aminu Gidado Yusha’u as the substantive Project Coordinator for the Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL) initiative in the state. ACReSAL is a collaborative project between the World Bank, the Federal Government of Nigeria, and the 19 northern states, including the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). It is designed to address environmental degradation and promote climate resilience across semi-arid regions of the country. Yusha’u’s appointment follows the elevation of the former Project Coordinator, Dr. Dahir M. Hashim, who was appointed earlier this year as a commissioner and member of the Kano State Executive Council. I am confident in your capacity to drive progress, align with His Excellency’s vision, and ensure the project achieves its objectives,” the statement read. Dr. Hashim wished him success in the new role and expressed optimism about the project’s future under his leadership. Until his appointment, Aminu Gidado Yusha’u served as the Monitoring and Evaluation Officer for the Kano ACReSAL Project. He is an alumnus of Science College, Dawakin Tofa, and holds a degree in Geology from Bayero University, Kano. He has also completed several postgraduate programmes relevant to his field.

Kano Government, CSOs Partner to Reclaim Communities from Crime and Youth Violence

In a bold step to tackle the rising menace of phone snatching, drug abuse, political thuggery, and other criminal activities across Kano State, the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, has reiterated the commitment of the Kano State Government to building strong partnerships with Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) as critical allies in restoring security and social order. This was conveyed in a statement signed by the Director Special Duties, Sani Abba Yola, on behalf of the Ministry. That is why we have convened this important engagement with civil society actors who remain closest to the grassroots and understand the real pulse of our communities,” the Commissioner said. During the interactive session, participants drawn from over 75 Civil Society Organizations identified key root causes behind the growing wave of insecurity. These include family instability, declining parental responsibility, widespread lack of youth empowerment, and the scourge of drug addiction. They also cited religious and cultural decline, weakened community vigilance structures, and gaps in law enforcement as critical challenges requiring urgent, holistic action. As part of the way forward, participants recommended a range of people-centered interventions. These include parental and family reorientation, revitalization of rehabilitation centers for victims of substance abuse, and the creation of toll-free hotlines for anonymous reporting of criminal hideouts. Other proposals centered on intelligence-led security operations, public sensitization through drama, community media, and influencers, as well as stronger collaboration with religious institutions to reinforce moral and ethical values.

PSC Approves Promotion of Senior Police Officers Across Ranks

The Police Service Commission has approved the promotion of several senior officers across various ranks in the Nigeria Police Force, in a move aimed at strengthening leadership within the security agency. In a statement released on Monday, the PSC announced the promotion of 12 Commissioners of Police to the rank of Assistant Inspectors General of Police. Additionally, 16 Deputy Commissioners of Police were elevated to the rank of substantive Commissioners, while 27 Assistant Commissioners of Police were promoted to Deputy Commissioners. The Commission also approved the promotion of 145 Chief Superintendents of Police to Assistant Commissioners, which included general duty officers and specialists such as those in the Airwing, medical doctors and dentists, pharmacists, lab scientists, physiotherapists, and nurses. Babangida also debunked earlier reports circulating online which claimed he had turned down the appointment. Court Dismisses Suit Seeking to Halt Statutory Allocations to Kano LGAs

A Federal High Court sitting in Kano has dismissed a suit filed by Abdullahi Abbas, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), and one other person, seeking to stop the disbursement of statutory allocations to the 44 Local Government Areas of Kano State. The suit, filed by Abbas, Aminu Aliyu-Tiga, and the APC through their counsel, Sunday Olowomoran, was brought via a motion ex parte dated October 28 and filed on November 1, 2024. This was conveyed in a statement issued by the court today, following the ruling of Justice Simon Amobeda. Read Also: How Kano People Missed Dr. Ganduje The respondents in the suit include the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), the Federal Account Allocation Committee (FAAC), Revenue Mobilization Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC), the Accountant-General of the Federation, Minister of Finance, Auditor-General of the Federation, and the Attorney-General of the Federation. Others listed as respondents were the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Kano State Government, Attorney-General of Kano State, Kano State Independent Electoral Commission (KANSIEC), and the 44 local governments in Kano State. The plaintiffs had asked the court to declare that the 12th to 55th respondents were not democratically elected, as required under Section 7(1) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended). They also sought an order restraining the Federal Government, CBN, and the Accountant-General from releasing statutory funds to the Kano LGAs. In his ruling, Justice Amobeda cited Order 50 Rules 3, 4, and 5 of the court, noting that although a notice of discontinuance was filed, it came after a hearing date had been fixed. “To avoid resuscitating the case in the future, the proper order to make is to dismiss the case. In view of this, leave is hereby granted to the applicants to withdraw the case. The suit is hereby dismissed with no cost,” the judge ruled. Earlier, applicants’ counsel, Sunday Olowomoran, on behalf of lead counsel Abdul Adamu-Fagge, SAN, made an oral application to withdraw the suit, informing the court that the matter had already been appealed and the appellate court ruled on June 30 that the Federal High Court lacked jurisdiction, directing the matter to the Kano State High Court. In their responses, various counsels to the respondents urged the court to dismiss the suit with substantial costs. Counsel to the CBN and RMAFC, B. D. Uche and S. G. Ahmad, demanded N1 million each in costs. Counsel to the Attorney-General of the Federation, Tajudeen Abdullahi, sought N2.5 million in costs. Bashir Yusuf-Muhammad, representing the Kano State Government, requested N2 billion, while Kano Attorney-General’s counsel, Sani Mustafa-Dauda, demanded N5 million. Counsel to KANSIEC, Ibrahim Wangida, urged the court to dismiss the suit, not strike it out, stating that the commission suffered “psychological and physical trauma” during the case. He requested N2 million in costs. Counsel to the 44 LGAs, Eyitayo Fatogun, SAN, also sought N2 million, while counsel for the 44 elected LG chairmen, Mustapha Hussaini, demanded N44 million in damages. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that on October 23, 2024, the same court halted the conduct of Kano local government elections earlier scheduled for October 26, 2025, until KANSIEC is properly reconstituted, following a prior court ruling that dissolved the commission for partisanship.

Dr. Yusuf explained that the facility will also be upgraded from a Primary Health Centre (PHC) to a General Hospital, citing the volume of patients it serves from Dala, Ungogo, and Gwale Local Government Areas. After touring various departments within the hospital, the Commissioner noted that while some sections were operating efficiently, others faced operational challenges. He, however, praised the staff for their dedication and commitment to service delivery. He assured that the state government will renovate the entire facility, recruit new personnel, and transition temporary workers into permanent and pensionable positions. Paramilitary Recruitment Resumes as FG Fixes Portal Glitches

The Federal Government has announced that the online recruitment portal for Nigeria’s paramilitary agencies will reopen on Monday, July 21, 2025, following a temporary suspension aimed at optimizing system performance. This was conveyed in a statement posted via the official X account of the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board (CDCFIB) on Sunday. According to the statement, applicants who had successfully initiated their applications are advised to revisit the portal and complete the process via https://recruitment.cdcfib.gov.ng. The system will reopen on Monday, July 21st, 2025,” the statement read in part. The CDCFIB, which oversees recruitment into the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS), the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), and the Federal Fire Service (FFS), had temporarily suspended the recruitment process on July 16, 2025. The board explained that the suspension was necessary to carry out critical system upgrades, aimed at improving the platform’s capacity to manage high traffic and ensure a fair, transparent, and efficient recruitment process. The recruitment exercise was initially slated to begin on June 26, 2025, but was later postponed to July 14 following widespread complaints of access issues. During that period, users encountered frequent crashes, login errors, and incomplete application submissions due to server overload. These challenges prompted the temporary shutdown to strengthen the infrastructure and avoid a recurrence. The nationwide recruitment drive is open to qualified Nigerians under three main categories: General Duty or Superintendent Cadre, Inspectorate Cadre, and Assistant Cadre, depending on the applicant’s academic qualifications. Acceptable qualifications range from Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (SSCE) to bachelor’s degrees and relevant professional certifications. Applicants must be Nigerian citizens by birth and aged between 18 and 35 years. Candidates must also meet specific physical fitness standards, including a minimum height of 1.65 meters for men and 1.60 meters for women. Male applicants must have a chest measurement of at least 0.87 meters. All applicants are required to submit a medical fitness certificate issued by a recognized government hospital. The board emphasized that individuals with criminal records or a history of financial misconduct will be disqualified. Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted for the next phase of the process, and no third party is authorized to act on behalf of the board. The board also reminded applicants that the recruitment process is entirely free of charge.

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has forecasted widespread thunderstorms and rainfall across parts of the country between Monday and Wednesday. In a weather outlook issued on Sunday in Abuja, NiMet said early morning thunderstorms and rain are expected on Monday in northern states including Taraba, Adamawa, Kebbi, Borno, Yobe, Gombe, Bauchi, Sokoto, and Kaduna. Other parts of the North will remain mostly sunny with patches of clouds. Later in the day, thunderstorms accompanied by moderate rainfall are likely in Adamawa, Taraba, Kebbi, Bauchi, Borno, Gombe, Katsina, Kano, Zamfara, Kaduna, and Yobe. For the South, NiMet predicts cloudy morning conditions, followed by light rains in parts of Imo, Abia, Bayelsa, Rivers, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom. On Tuesday, northern states will experience mostly sunny skies with intermittent clouds in the morning. Bauchi, Gombe, Yobe, and Jigawa are forecasted to have thunderstorms and moderate rain. Later in the day, storms are likely in Adamawa, Taraba, Kano, Katsina, and Kaduna. In the central region, morning thunderstorms and light rain are expected in Plateau, Benue, and Nasarawa, with further rain likely in Plateau, Niger, FCT, and Nasarawa by evening. The South will see morning clouds, with Akwa Ibom and Cross River experiencing early rain. Moderate showers are expected in Ondo, Imo, Enugu, Anambra, Abia, Edo, Rivers, Delta, Bayelsa, and surrounding states later in the day. By Wednesday, sunny spells with scattered clouds are forecast for the North, with morning thunderstorms in Katsina, Kano, Bauchi, Sokoto, and Taraba. NiMet urged the public to take precautionary measures, warning that strong winds may precede thunderstorms in some locations. “Driving under heavy rain should be avoided. Disconnect electrical appliances from sockets. Stay away from tall trees to prevent injuries from falling branches,” the agency advised. Ganduje’s Associates Reassure Public of His Well-being

Close associates of the immediate past National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Chairman of the Board of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, have dismissed rumours circulating on social media suggesting he is hospitalised in London. Speaking in an interview with DCL Hausa on Wednesday, Salihu Tanko Yakasai, a longtime political ally of Dr. Ganduje, described the claims as false and unfounded. “Dr. Ganduje is in good health. He travelled two days before the passing of former President Muhammadu Buhari. I am aware that he even visited the late president privately, though there were no pictures because it was not an official visit. In sha Allah, he will return home in sound health,” Yakasai said. It will be recalled that Ganduje’s absence during President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s condolence visit to the family of late business mogul Alhaji Aminu Dantata in Kano stirred reactions in the political space. Kano Judicial Commission Sanctions Two Judiciary Staff Over Misconduct

The Kano State Judicial Service Commission has sanctioned two judiciary staff over separate cases of misconduct, reaffirming its commitment to upholding discipline and integrity within the judicial arm of government. The decisions were reached at the Commission’s 84th meeting held on Friday, 18th July 2025. This was contained in a statement issued on Sunday by Baba Jibo Ibrahim, spokesperson of the Kano State Judiciary. Read Also: AIG Zone I Receives Gauta Club on Courtesy Visit, Warns Against Unguarded Utterances According to the statement, one of the affected officers, Adamu Salisu, a registrar attached to the High Court, was found guilty of falsifying affidavits of service and non-service, forging the signature of a bailiff, and unlawfully signing documents as a Commissioner for Oaths. The infractions were uncovered by the Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission. Upon appearing before the Judicial Service Commission and admitting guilt, Salisu was found liable for gross misconduct. “After careful deliberation, the Commission resolved to demote him from Grade Level 13 to Grade Level 12,” the statement read. “He has also been removed from his position as Registrar and issued a strong warning against further unethical conduct or attempts to influence others.
