Doguwa Warns: “Nigeria is at War With Itself” — Urges NASS to Shut Down if Insecurity Persists

The member representing Doguwa/Tudun Wada Federal Constituency, Alhassan Ado Doguwa, has issued a strong warning on the floor of the House of Representatives, saying the National Assembly should consider shutting down its operations if the Federal Government fails to urgently tackle the worsening insecurity across the country. Speaking during a debate on national security, Doguwa described the current situation as “tragic, horrific and unspeakable.” He said: “If the government is not prepared to do the right thing, I urge this Honourable House to stand up and shut this House down until the right thing is done.” While acknowledging the efforts of security agencies, he insisted their performance is “not good enough.” Read Also: Insecurity and School Closures in Northern Nigeria – By Comrade Wali, mni Doguwa noted that insecurity has no tribe, party, or religion. “It affects everyone,” he said, warning that Nigeria is slipping into a coordinated crisis aimed at destabilising the country before the 2027 elections. Quoting Bob Marley, he added: “War in the north, war in the west, war in the east and war down south… Today Nigeria is operating under a complete war against humanity.” He also expressed deep concern over rising kidnapping cases in parts of Kano State, especially around Falgore Forest, which he said has now become a hotspot for abductions. Doguwa urged lawmakers to support and lead community-based vigilante efforts, saying Nigerians expect nothing less than real protection from their government.

Insecurity and School Closures in Northern Nigeria – By Comrade Wali, mni

The recent abductions of schoolgirls in Kebbi, Niger and Borno State, have brought to the forefront the urgent and worsening insecurity in Northern Nigeria. Today, we are witnessing the closure of Federal Unity Schools nationwide, while states such as Katsina, Niger, and Plateau have shut their schools. This situation threatens the educational foundation of millions of children. These attacks are not only a security catastrophe; they carry dangerous international implication. The abduction of Christian schoolgirls in Niger State, for example, risk feeding a global narrative especially the U.S. President Donald Trump’s controversial comments that Christians are being systematically targeted in Nigeria. This narrative is inaccurate. The truth is that insecurity affects children of all faiths across the North, Muslims and Christians alike and Nigeria must address this challenge collectively. But beyond condemning the criminals, the Northern Nigeria must also confront a difficult reality: we cannot continue depending entirely on Abuja. Other regions have taken their destinies into their own hands — the South-West established Amotekun, the South-East mobilised community security, and the South-South reinforced its local structures. The North must do the same. Northern Nigeria has produced the highest number of retired military generals, ex-police officers, intelligence experts, technocrats, wealthy business leaders, and respected traditional rulers. It is time for these assets to be mobilized. The region must take its destiny into its own hands. The Federal Government must continue its rescue efforts and accelerate the Safe Schools Programme. But long-term peace will only come when Northern leaders and communities work hand-in-hand to defend their land and protect their children. Let us stand together — not as Muslims or Christians, not as politicians or tribes — but as people united by a shared destiny. Our children deserve to go to school without fear. Our region deserves peace. And our nation deserves stability. This is the time to act with sincerity, courage, and unity. FCTA Denies School Closure, Suspends Danlami Hayyo Over Fake Circular

The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has dismissed reports circulating on social media and some broadcast platforms claiming that government schools in the FCT were directed to close by November 28, 2025. In a statement issued on Tuesday, Lere Olayinka, Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media to FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, described the rumour as “false, misleading, and entirely unfounded.” Following the controversy triggered by the unauthorised circular, Minister Wike ordered the suspension of the Mandate Secretary for Education, Dr. Danlami Hayyo. The Acting Head of Service, Mrs. Nancy Sabanti Nathan, has also been directed to discipline the Director of School Services, Mrs. Aishatu Sani Alhassan, in line with civil service rules. Olayinka stressed that no such decision to close schools was taken at any level of the administration and urged parents, students, and school authorities to disregard the report. He reaffirmed that the approved academic calendar remains unchanged. The administration further assured residents of adequate security across schools, noting that the Minister has ordered the resumption of Operation Sweep and other security measures to reinforce safety in the FCT. Responding to journalists, the suspended Mandate Secretary, Hayyo, distanced himself from the circular, insisting it was issued without his knowledge or authorisation. “Seriously, the way you saw the circular is the same way I saw it. I believe it is a wrong circular because the director who signed it has no right to do that,” he said. Hayyo urged parents to ignore the misinformation, emphasising that teaching and learning activities were ongoing without disruption. He dismissed claims of insecurity or administrative crisis, reiterating that “there is no cause for alarm. FCT is safe, all our schools are safe.” The FCTA reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining stability within the education sector and noted that disciplinary actions were being taken to address procedural breaches and restore public confidence. The administration advised residents to rely on official communication channels to avoid misinformation.

Zone One AIG Convenes Strategic Meeting Over Rising Insecurity in Kano, Jigawa

The Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of Zone One Headquarters, Kano, AIG Ahmed Garba, has convened a high-level meeting with tactical and intelligence commanders from Kano and Jigawa States to address the recent surge in banditry affecting parts of Kano State. This was conveyed in a statement signed by the Public Relations Officer, CSP Bashir Muhammad ANIPR. According to the statement, the meeting, held on November 25, 2025, focused on developing a coordinated and comprehensive strategy to curb the rising security threats in the zone. The AIG and field commanders reviewed ongoing operations and agreed on modalities to strengthen the ongoing deployment of police personnel from the Kano Command as well as military units already stationed in the affected communities. 25 Abducted Kebbi Schoolgirls Regain Freedom

The 25 schoolgirls kidnapped from Government Girls’ Comprehensive Senior Secondary School, Maga, in Kebbi State have regained their freedom. Reliable government and security sources confirmed the development on Tuesday, stating that the girls were rescued earlier in the day and are currently being transported to the Government House in Birnin Kebbi for medical examination and debriefing. “The girls have been freed. They are on their way to the State House,” a senior government official told Daily Post. Dear President Tinubu, Murtala Sule Garo Matters

By Aminu Dahiru Ever since the All Progressives Congress (APC) lost the 2023 governorship election in Kano State, a highly contested race, which ended in the court, I have been expecting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to find a space within his cabinet or somewhere else to accommodate the APC deputy governorship candidate of the party in the state in the 2023 election in Kano State, Alhaji Murtala Sule Garo. My readers may ask why I am bringing up the issue of Alhaji Murtala Sule Garo now and of what significance is this call to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s political future. I have observed and analyzed the president’s political journey, what some call the political sagacity of His Excellency President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and have come to the conclusion that Tinubu takes grassroots mobilization or movements and their movers seriously. This is one reason which makes the president a political wizard of our time. And by every standard, Murtala Sule Garo is out to add a touch of vitality to the “Renewed Hope Agenda”, which has its roots so deep in service to Nigeria. Being the most populous state and potentially the biggest democracy in Nigeria, Kano remains a strong voting bloc capable of shaping elections. Therefore, identifying and drawing near those who can detect Kano’s political pulse should be one of the president’s prime concerns. He commands hundreds of youth organizations. For years, Alhaji Murtala Sule Garo has been in the possession of the string; he moves youth movements in the state at one go. However, this is not for nothing. Garo labored for it and conquered the hearts of youths. Youth and women empowerment, job creation, and commitment to social development top agendas in Alhaji Murtala Sule’s political dictionary.   Thick Political Muscles … Arguably, aside from the immediate past National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje CON, Alhaji Murtala Sule Garo is the most prominent and active political figure in the APC in Kano State. The teaming youth and women he commands are evidence of this. From Garo in Kabo Local Government to Gabasawa LG, Dambata to Gaya LG, Commander’s political structure runs across the forty-four local government areas of Kano state; and this political motorcade slews through villages, towns and cities. Youths flow in on a daily basis. For example, the one-million-man campaign march for Tinubu Ganduje led in Kano State prior to the 2023 presidential election, along with many more political mobilizations, owes its success to Alhaji Murtala Sule Garo’s effective mobilization skills. The commander is to Ganduje what “Man Friday” to Robinson Crusoe. Trust, loyalty and capacity bind the two political leaders.   Garo is Green… The Tinubu administration needs to pay more attention to and invest more on nurturing youth – youth inclusion. Undoubtedly, the government has appointed youths into key positions. As President Tinubu envisaged it, still youth inclusion is the future of politics in Nigeria and Alhaji Murtala Sule Garo symbolizes healing, health, youth and political fertility. He is someone to whom hundreds of thousands of youths look up to.   A source of delight to Kano APC members… In government and out of government this political figure has given a political lifeline to APC members in Kano State. For example, during Ramadan and Sallah festivities, Alhaji Murtala Sule Garo donated millions of naira to families, party elders and the APC social media team members. He has clung to this habit of fertilizing the party ever since. It was to calm the nerves of the Commander’s teeming supporters that Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, on a podium, told the APC supporters in the state that Alhaji Murtala Sule Garo’s appointment is underway. This did not only put a smile on the faces of the audience, but also rekindled hope. Youth have been yearning to see loyal party members and capacitated political leaders like Commander appointed into key positions; to them this, equates life and/or an ever-lasting commitment to their well-being.   Garo and Detractors There are strong allegations that some individuals in key positions are working tirelessly to block Alhaji Murtala Sule Garo from receiving a federal government appointment. They fear that Commander’s rising popularity is eclipsing their perceived failure. But this approach is shortsighted and dangerous. The APC in Kano state urgently needs Garo’s expertise and widespread appeal to unseat the ruling NNPP in 2027. To date, despite his being out of government for a while, Garo is the most acceptable APC member in Kano state, owing to his generosity.   Kano 2023 governorship election Despite the apparent challenges which hindered the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano from retaining the governorship seat, the party’s candidate, Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna, still managed to secure 890,705 votes, representing approximately 45.03% of the total votes, as against Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, who polled 019,602, approximately 51.55%. Traditionally the people of Kano state tend to grow disenchanted with any government or a political party after every eight years, often opting for change But Alhaji Murtala Sule Garo’s exceptional organisational capacity to mobilization skills played a crucial role in preventing the party from suffering a complete loss. There were perceptions that the Buhari-led Federal Government was determined to politically humiliate former governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, thereby complicating the APC position in the state. We all know what happened in court.   Garo and Kano by-elections Renowned politicians and political pundits have pointed out that the APC’s loss in Bagwai/Shanono state assembly by election and as well as its narrow escape from defeat in Ghari/Tsanyawa state assembly by-election can largely be attributed to the sidelining of Commander. Gunmen Kidnap Residents in Kano’s Tsanyawa Local Govt

Bandits have struck multiple communities in Kano State’s Tsanyawa Local Government Area, abducting women and men in a series of night raids. The attacks, which occurred in villages including ‘Yan Chibi, Masaurari, and Birisawa, have left residents living in fear. According to reports, armed men on over 30 motorcycles swept through the communities, seizing young women and married women. In Masaurari area of ‘Yan Kamaye village, eight women and two men were abducted. In Birisawa village, within the ‘Yan Chibi axis, five women were taken by the gunmen. Another attack was recorded in Sundu, where three women were kidnapped, though two later managed to escape. Residents say the communities have been vulnerable to attacks, with many men forced to sleep in open spaces to avoid capture. The bandits are believed to have entered Tsanyawa through routes linking ‘Yan Chibi to ‘Yar Gajam in Musawa Local Government Area of Katsina State before spreading into surrounding Kano communities. Security agencies have been alerted, but authorities have yet to issue an official statement on the latest attacks. Updates are expected as search efforts intensify and attempts continue to secure the release of the abducted residents.

Fresh Attack in Kwara: 11 Residents Kidnapped in Isapa Community

Another night of fear in Kwara as bandits stormed Isapa, a community near Eruku in Ekiti LGA, abducting 11 residents, including a pregnant woman, two nursing mothers, and several children. The attack happened around 6pm on Monday — less than 24 hours after worshippers earlier kidnapped from a local church regained their freedom. According to residents, about 20–30 armed men invaded the community, shooting sporadically and leaving bullet holes across homes. An elderly woman was reportedly hit by a stray bullet. Security operatives and vigilantes have launched a search operation to rescue the hostages. Former Kano Education Commissioner Urges Gov. Yusuf to Prioritise Security, Stop Politicising School Closures

Former Commissioner for Education in Kano State, Hon. Muhammad Sanusi S. Kiru, has urged Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf to adopt a collaborative and apolitical approach to safeguarding students amid rising security threats targeting schools across the country. In an open letter dated November 24, 2025, Kiru reminded the governor that the recent closure of 47 Federal Unity Colleges, as well as all public boarding schools in Katsina, Taraba, Kebbi, Niger, and several other states, mirrors the precautionary measures taken by Kano in November 2021. He explained that the 2021 decision followed intelligence reports indicating that armed groups were targeting vulnerable schools—particularly those along interstate highways, lacking perimeter fencing, or located in remote communities. According to him, the temporary closure ordered at the time was aimed solely at protecting students and school personnel. Kiru noted that security operations later disrupted several kidnapping networks in Kano, crediting the success of the measures to timely cooperation between the state government and security agencies. The former commissioner expressed concern over confirmed security threats in at least three local government areas in Kano, warning that the state must act urgently to avoid unnecessary risks to students. He appealed to Governor Yusuf not to allow political considerations to influence critical security decisions. “It is not too late to swallow your pride and follow the model used successfully by your colleagues elsewhere,” Kiru wrote. He added that parents are increasingly anxious and may begin withdrawing their children from boarding schools without a firm and compassionate government response. He reiterated that ensuring the safety of students should be above political rivalry, urging the governor to choose “the path of honour” by adopting decisive measures to secure learning environments across the state. Kiru reaffirmed that his call was motivated by concern for the wellbeing of students and the need to maintain public confidence in school safety.
