Kano State Polytechnic has taken a major step toward expanding postgraduate education as it hosted a resource inspection team from Joseph Sarwuan Tarka University, Makurdi (JOSTUM), for the proposed affiliation to run Postgraduate Diploma (PGD) programmes in Social and Management Sciences.
This was conveyed in a statement signed by the Head of Public Affairs of the institution, Auwal Ismail Bagwai, following the visit by the JOSTUM delegation to the School of Continuing Education and Postgraduate Studies (SCEPS) on Thursday, December 11, 2025.
The inspection followed a formal request by the Polytechnic to affiliate with JOSTUM for the delivery of PGD programmes, in line with efforts to strengthen academic standards and widen access to postgraduate education.
Speaking during the visit, the Chairperson of JOSTUM’s Affiliation Committee and leader of the delegation, Prof. Bibiana D. Igbabul, said the university received a letter of intent from the Polytechnic expressing interest in the affiliation, which prompted the constitution of a five-member committee to conduct a comprehensive verification of academic and physical resources.

She commended the Polytechnic’s management for the warm reception and urged members of the inspection team to conduct the exercise with transparency and objectivity to ensure compliance with university requirements.
Representing the Rector, Dr. Abubakar Umar Farouk, FCA, the Director of the School of Management Studies, Dr. Maryam Kabir, reaffirmed the Polytechnic’s commitment to academic excellence and adherence to university standards. She noted that upon approval of the affiliation, graduates of the PGD programmes would be awarded certificates by JOSTUM.
Dr. Kabir described the proposed collaboration as a significant milestone for the institution and expressed appreciation to the university’s management for considering the request. She assured the inspection team of the Polytechnic’s readiness to meet all necessary academic and infrastructural requirements.
Earlier, the Director of SCEPS, Dr. Ramatu Adamu Muhammed, said the affiliation would enhance quality assurance, strengthen postgraduate training and expand opportunities in the social and management sciences. She added that the Polytechnic had earlier signed a memorandum of understanding with Aliko Dangote University of Science and Technology, Wudil, for PGD programmes in Science, Technology and Engineering.
