The Emir of Gaya, Alhaji Ali Ibrahim Gaya, has called on wealthy individuals to use their resources to promote the growth of Islam and improve the living standards of their communities. The call was made during the commissioning of a newly upgraded Jumu’at Mosque in Shargalle village, Albasu Local Government Area of Kano State. The mosque was constructed by the Sarkin Kudun Gaya, Professor Musa Tukur Yakasai. A statement signed by Abdullahi Datti Abdullahi, Deputy Registrar, Information and Public Relations of Aliko Dangote University of Science and Technology (ADUSTECH), Wudil, said the Emir made the appeal while speaking at the event. The Emir, who was represented by the District Head of Albasu and Makaman Gaya, AIG Bashir Albasu (rtd), commended Professor Yakasai for his continuous support and contributions to the development of the people in the area. The maiden Friday sermon was delivered by Sheikh Ibrahim Khaleel, Chairman of the Council of Ulama of Northern Nigeria, who also led the first Jumu’at prayer. In his sermon, he emphasized good conduct, fear of Allah, and the importance of spending wealth in the cause of Islam. Several dignitaries attended the commissioning ceremony, including the District Head of Batayya, Alhaji Abdulhamid Batayya; former Vice Chancellor of ADUSTECH, Wudil, Professor Shehu Ahaji Musa; and Sarkin Malaman Gaya, among others.  

By Umar Idris Shuaibu, Kano Former Kano State Governor, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has suspended plans to establish an independent Hisbah outfit following widespread public misunderstanding of the initiative and advice from Islamic clerics and the state government. The development was disclosed by a former Commander-General of the Kano State Hisbah Board and close ally of Ganduje, Sheikh Harun Ibn Sina, in an interview with ‘The Historica Nigeria‘. He explained that the proposed independent Hisbah was misconstrued by members of the public, creating negative impressions about its purpose and intentions. According to Ibn Sina, the initiative was conceived with good intentions and was never designed to undermine, rival, or create conflict with the existing Kano State Hisbah Command. He noted that the growing misunderstanding surrounding the proposal raised concerns, which necessitated a reconsideration of the plan. “We initiated it with good intentions. We are not fighting anyone, and we are not trying to create enemies or rivals for the current Hisbah,” he said. He further revealed that although the plan has been halted, the state government has accepted suggestions on how to re-engage sacked Hisbah personnel and reposition the existing Hisbah Command to function more effectively. The former Hisbah chief clarified that the suspension of the independent Hisba plan does not affect the activities of the Ganduje Islamic Foundation, stressing that the foundation will continue to operate within its established mandate. He also urged residents of Kano State to remain calm, assuring them that all decisions taken were aimed at preserving harmony and strengthening religious and social institutions across the state.

Former Kano State Governor, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has withdrawn his plan to establish an independent Hisbah group in Kano State. The decision was announced in a statement by Baffa Babba Dan Agundi, Director General of the National Productivity Centre and a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano. Key stakeholders, including the Kano State Government, the Department of State Services (DSS), and Dr. Ganduje, intervened to preserve peace and stability in the state. The Kano State Hisbah Corps has intercepted a vehicle conveying alcoholic drinks from Lagos to Kano as part of its enforcement of Islamic law in the state. The operation was carried out following credible intelligence reports, according to the Deputy Commander-General of the corps, Dr. Mujahideen Aminuddeen, who disclosed the development on Tuesday. He said operatives of the Fagge patrol command acted swiftly on the information, successfully stopping the vehicle and seizing the alcoholic beverages. Dr. Mujahideen revealed that investigations showed the consignment was sent by a woman from Lagos to Kano, with about 13 packs of alcoholic drinks recovered during the operation. The deputy commander-general urged members of the public to continue reporting activities that violate accepted social norms or the provisions of Islamic law, stressing that public cooperation remains critical to the effective operations of the Hisbah Corps.

Professor Ibrahim Mu’azzam Mai Bushira, former Commandant General of the Kano Hisbah Board, has warned that efforts to form an independent Hisbah unit in Kano State could create divisions and undermine peaceful coexistence and security in the state. He raised the alarm while addressing journalists in Kano on Thursday, noting that the position was part of the resolutions reached during a stakeholders’ meeting involving former Hisbah leaders and their deputies. The meeting examined the implications of introducing a parallel Hisbah structure at a time when the state already has a legally recognized Hisbah Board backed by the Law of the Kano State House of Assembly. Professor Mai Bushira stated that the decision to form another Hisbah arises from dismissed personnel and the former Hisbah Marshal, but emphasized that such a move could bring both foreseeable and unforeseen problems. “We agree it was reached out of the dismissed personnel of the Hisbah, and the former Hisbah Marshal, but as Muslims, we know it will not be good for all of us. You cannot create another Hisbah working parallel to the legal one backed by the Kano State House of Assembly because it will create so many problems,” he said. He emphasized that the operations of the Hisbah should not be politicized and that all recruitment must follow due process. Professor Mai Bushira further stressed that only people of integrity should be recruited to uphold the moral practices of Islam, and personnel who contravene the law should be dismissed accordingly. He recalled that during the enactment of the law to create the Hisbah Board in Kano, all stakeholders were included to prevent divisions within the institution.

The Governor of Kano State, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, on Friday led a large gathering of Islamic scholars and Qur’an memorizers in a special session of Qur’anic recitation and prayers held in the state capital. The event, which featured 4,444 Qur’an memorizers, was part of the governor’s ongoing commitment to promoting peace, stability, and divine intervention in addressing emerging security challenges within the state. The prayer session drew massive attendance from across Kano, with thousands of residents converging to seek Allah’s guidance and protection. Many described the gathering as deeply spiritual and emotionally uplifting, considering the various socio-economic and security challenges facing the country. Residents from different parts of the state spent several hours participating in continuous Qur’anic recitation and supplications, praying for an end to insecurity and for the restoration of lasting peace. Participants expressed hope that the prayers would attract Allah’s mercy and bring solutions to the prevailing challenges. Muslims across the state also prayed for Allah to accept the supplications and grant Kano and Nigeria peace, stability, and prosperity.
