Kano Launches ‘Operation Safe Corridor’ to Curb Political Thuggery, Promote Peace
The Kano State Government has launched Operation Safe Corridor, a community reintegration initiative designed to address the growing menace of thuggery and political violence among youths. The programme, introduced at the Fele Events Centre in Kano, is part of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s broader efforts to promote peace and security in the state by redirecting the energies of young people toward more productive and peaceful activities. Speaking at the event, the Commissioner for Information, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, highlighted the moral and spiritual foundations of the initiative. He urged the youth to reject violence and warned them against politicians who exploit them for personal gain. Waiya reaffirmed the government’s readiness to support young people but cautioned that lawlessness would not be tolerated under any guise. One of the rehabilitated youths, Alhaji Nana, echoed these sentiments, urging his peers not to be used as tools of violence. He praised the governor and Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II for promoting peace. The event concluded with a show of support from the repentant youths, many of whom publicly renounced thuggery and pledged to contribute to a more peaceful and harmonious Kano.
