The Kebbi State Police Command has confirmed that armed bandits abducted 25 female students from Government Girls’ Secondary School, Maga, in Danko/Wasagu Local Government Area. The attack occurred around 4 a.m. on Monday when heavily armed assailants stormed the school hostel, shooting sporadically. During the invasion, one staff member was killed, while another sustained injuries. Despite an exchange of gunfire with police officers on duty, the attackers overpowered security and whisked the students away. Police spokesperson CSP Nafi’u Abubakar Kotarkoshi said the attackers gained entry by scaling the school’s perimeter fence. He identified the deceased as the school’s Deputy Principal, Hassan Makuku, while another staff member, Ali Shehu, was injured in the arm. The police say investigations are ongoing and efforts are being intensified to track the kidnappers’ route and rescue the victims. The Police Commissioner urged residents to remain calm, assuring that security agencies are working relentlessly to protect lives and property across the state.

Bandits launched a devastating early morning attack on the Government Girls Comprehensive Senior Secondary School (GGCSS) in Maga, Danko Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi State, resulting in the death of the school’s Vice-Principal and the abduction of an unspecified number of students. ​The deceased Vice-Principal, Hassan Yakubu Makuku, was reportedly killed while attempting to shield his students from the attackers. ​A local resident of Maga, Aliyu Yakubu, confirmed the incident, stating the bandits invaded the school around 5:00 a.m. on Monday. The attackers met no resistance, according to the resident. It’s a great loss for the community and the school,” Aliyu Yakubu said, adding that the attack has created widespread panic and mourning among residents. ​Maga, the community where GGCSS is located, has recently faced multiple attacks by armed groups, highlighting the persistent security challenges in the Danko/Wasagu area. ​As of the time of filing this report, the Kebbi State Police Command has not released an official statement regarding the incident. Suspected thugs on Monday attacked the convoy of former Minister of Justice and Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF), Abubakar Malami, in Kebbi State. Malami, a former chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and now leader of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in the state, was said to be on a condolence visit when the incident occurred. Eyewitnesses confirmed that about 10 vehicles were destroyed, while several of Malami’s supporters sustained injuries. Some thugs came out from the APC state headquarters armed with dangerous weapons and stones, attacking and destroying our convoy. The truth is, when it comes to politics in Kebbi State, there is no retreat, no surrender,” Malami alleged. However, the Publicity Secretary of the APC in Kebbi, Isa Assalafy, denied the party’s involvement in the attack, describing the incident as regrettable. “Kebbi is a peaceful state. No government that enjoys massive support from the people and is confident of victory in 2027 would want the peace of the state to be disrupted,” Assalafy said. He further alleged that security personnel attached to Malami’s convoy fired shots during the confrontation, a development he claimed escalated the situation.

Governor Nasir Idris of Kebbi State has approved the appointment of Sanusi Mika’ilu Sami as the new Emir of Zuru. His appointment follows the death of the former Emir, Muhammad Sani Sami Gomo II, who passed away on August 16, 2025, at a London hospital.
