Bunkure Applauds Renewed Hope Initiative for Elderly Support in Abuja

Umar Idris Shuaibu, Kano The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Administration has reiterated its commitment to the welfare of elderly persons, as Dr. Mariya Mahmoud Bunkure attended the third edition of the Renewed Hope Initiative under the Social Investment Programme for the Elderly Support Scheme in Abuja. The programme was held at the Centre for Arts and Culture, Garki, and brought together beneficiaries and stakeholders to highlight ongoing efforts aimed at improving the wellbeing and social inclusion of senior citizens. Speaking at the event, Dr. Bunkure applauded the Elderly Support Scheme, describing it as a compassionate intervention that reinforces the need for older persons to feel valued, protected, and supported by society. She noted that the initiative reflects the humane vision of the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, whose Renewed Hope Initiative continues to reach vulnerable groups across the country, including the elderly. She commended the professional body for its contributions to advancing medical education, professional standards, and healthcare delivery across the West African sub-region. She noted that, as the nation’s capital, the FCT remains committed to hosting the 50th anniversary of the West African College of Physicians, describing the event as part of broader efforts to strengthen healthcare systems, build capacity, and improve the wellbeing of residents. Ganduje Foundation Absorbs Ex-Hisbah Personnel, Inspects Islamic Centre Project

By Umar Idris Shuaibu The Ganduje Foundation has absorbed former operatives of the Kano State Hisbah Board who were dismissed by the current NNPP-led administration, a development described as politically motivated by those affected. This revelation was made by the former Director General of Hisbah, Dr. Aliyu Musa Aliyu, during an interview with The Historica Nigeria after inspecting an ongoing Islamic Centre project being executed by the Foundation in Jahi, Abuja. Dr. Aliyu explained that the Foundation established an independent Hisbah unit to enable the displaced personnel to continue offering voluntary community service in line with Islamic principles. “The personnel’s passion to continue contributing to the principles of Hisbah in Islam prompted them to approach the Foundation. Wike Sacks Acting FCT-IRS Chairman, Ango

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has relieved the Acting Executive Chairman of the Federal Capital Territory Internal Revenue Service (FCT-IRS), Michael Ango, of his duties. The development was confirmed in a statement issued on Friday by the Senior Special Assistant to the Minister on Public Communication and Social Media, Lere Olayinka. Following Ango’s removal, the most senior official of the FCT-IRS has been directed to immediately assume leadership of the revenue agency in an acting capacity. During Ango’s tenure, the FCT-IRS recorded ₦262 billion in revenue for 2024, surpassing its ₦250 billion target and exceeding the ₦211.1 billion collected in 2023.

TPI Hosts Intensive Financial Management Course for APC Treasury Staff

The Progressive Institute (TPI), the think-tank arm of the All Progressives Congress (APC), on Monday commenced a 5-day financial management training programme for staff of the party’s Treasury Department at its National Headquarters in Abuja. This was contained in a statement signed by Wale Abideen, Head of the Media Unit, The Progressive Institute, Abuja. The training, taking place at the TPI Boardroom, runs from Monday, 1st December to Friday, 5th December 2025, with emphasis on budgeting, forecasting, planning, and cost/budgetary control aimed at boosting organizational excellence. In his opening remarks, the Director General of TPI, Dr. Lanre Adebayo, commended APC National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, for prioritizing capacity building within the party’s financial structure. He noted that it is the first time a political leadership has empowered its training arm to directly train party members. The workshop is expected to enhance the financial management capacity of participants and improve the overall efficiency of the APC’s administrative and treasury operations.
