The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Administration has reiterated its commitment to the welfare of elderly persons, as Dr. Mariya Mahmoud Bunkure attended the third edition of the Renewed Hope Initiative under the Social Investment Programme for the Elderly Support Scheme in Abuja.
The programme was held at the Centre for Arts and Culture, Garki, and brought together beneficiaries and stakeholders to highlight ongoing efforts aimed at improving the wellbeing and social inclusion of senior citizens.
Speaking at the event, Dr. Bunkure applauded the Elderly Support Scheme, describing it as a compassionate intervention that reinforces the need for older persons to feel valued, protected, and supported by society.
She noted that the initiative reflects the humane vision of the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, whose Renewed Hope Initiative continues to reach vulnerable groups across the country, including the elderly.

Dr. Bunkure added that the FCT Administration, through its Women Affairs Secretariat, remains committed to strengthening social protection, healthcare access, emotional support, and social inclusion for elderly residents.
She stressed that genuine wellbeing for senior citizens goes beyond material support, emphasising that true fulfilment comes from feeling recognised, heard, and appreciated within the community.
