President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed the 15th Fulani Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero, as Chairman of the National Ramadan Feeding Committee.
The appointment was disclosed in a statement issued on Thursday by the Emir’s spokesperson, Abubakar Balarabe Kofar Na’isa.
According to the statement, the announcement was conveyed during a visit by a Federal Government delegation to the monarch at his palace in Gidan Nasarawa, Kano.
The delegation included the National Imam of the Abuja National Mosque, Prof. Muhammad Kabir, alongside officials from the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, including Permanent Secretary Engr. Muhammad Adamu, Deputy Director Logistics Alhaji Yahaya Abdulhadi, Malam Muktar Sarki, and Alhaji Alhassan Ibrahim.
The delegation explained that the Emir was selected based on merit and his capacity to provide effective leadership for the assignment, stressing that the committee is a Federal Government initiative aimed at serving the public during the holy month of Ramadan.

According to the statement, the committee will oversee the distribution of essential food items, including rice, millet, and cooking oil, to beneficiaries across the country.
It noted that in previous years, the Ramadan feeding programme was largely limited to hosting selected leaders for Iftar with the President. However, the new directive expands the initiative to cover food distribution across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones.
The committee comprises representatives of the Federal Government in collaboration with the management of the National Mosque, Abuja, and members of the National Assembly, including Senator AbdulRahman Kawu Sumaila and Hon. AbdulSamad Sambo Dasuki, alongside three Permanent Secretaries and four directors.
The delegation further disclosed that Yahaya Abubakar, Chairman of the Board of the National Mosque, has directed National Imams and key administrative and logistics officials to support the committee.
The committee operates under the coordination of the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation.
The delegation expressed confidence in the Emir’s ability to provide the necessary leadership to ensure the success of the programme.
In his remarks, the Emir commended the Federal Government for expanding the scope of the Ramadan feeding initiative, describing it as timely and impactful.
He expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve and voiced optimism that the programme would be sustained to provide long-term relief to Nigerians.
The monarch also assured that the committee would carry out its responsibilities diligently, pledging to offer guidance and necessary support to ensure the success of the initiative.
