Tinubu Renames University After Renowned Islamic Scholar

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the renaming of the Federal University of Medical Science (FUMS), Azare, after the late renowned Islamic scholar, Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi. The decision aims to preserve and immortalise his legacy.

Tinubu announced this on Saturday during a condolence visit to the family of the late cleric in Bauchi State, describing his death as a “great national loss.”

Sheikh Dahiru, the spiritual leader of the Tijjaniyya Brotherhood in Nigeria, died on November 27 at 98. The President prayed for Allah’s mercy upon the cleric’s soul and sought strength for the family and Bauchi State government to bear the loss.

Tinubu urged Nigerians to pray for peace and unity, stressing collective resilience during challenging times. Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, thanked the President for honouring the late cleric.

The late Sheikh Dahiru was born in 1927 in Gombe State and devoted his life to Islamic education, peaceful coexistence, and unity. He was buried on November 28 in Bauchi.
