The Super Falcons of Nigeria produced a thrilling comeback to defeat hosts Morocco 3-2 in the final of the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) on Saturday, securing their 10th continental title.
Justin Madugu’s side came into the final seeking revenge for their semi-final loss to the North Africans in the 2024 edition and they delivered in dramatic fashion.
Despite a strong start by the Falcons, Morocco took the lead in the 13th minute. A loose ball fell kindly for tournament top scorer Ghizlane Chebbak, who rifled her effort past Nigeria’s goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie.

The hosts doubled their lead in the 28th minute when Mssoudy cut in from the left edge of the box and fired a low, left-footed shot into the bottom corner to make it 2-0.
The first half ended with the Moroccans firmly in control, while the Falcons returned from the break determined to turn the tide.
Nigeria began the second half with renewed urgency, applying sustained pressure. Their efforts nearly paid off when Moroccan goalkeeper Khadija Er-Rmichi collided with her own defender, Rabbah, though the danger was eventually cleared.
The breakthrough came in the 63rd minute. After Ijamilusi Folashade hooked a ball back into the box, it struck the arm of Morocco’s defender Benzina. The referee awarded a penalty, which Jennifer Okoronkwo calmly converted to bring Nigeria back into the contest.
Just eight minutes later, Okoronkwo charged down the right flank and squared the ball for Ijamilusi, who finished from close range to level the score at 2-2.
With momentum firmly in their favour, the Super Falcons found the winner in the 88th minute. A deep free kick was met by the outstretched foot of Uchenna Kanu, who prodded the ball into the net to complete a sensational comeback.
The final whistle sparked scenes of jubilation as Nigeria reclaimed their dominance on the African stage with a record-extending 10th WAFCON title.
