Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), citing the unresolved national leadership crisis that has continued to destabilise the party.
Adeleke made the announcement late Monday night through a statement posted on his Instagram page. He disclosed that he had earlier submitted his formal resignation letter to PDP officials in Sagba Abogunde, Ward 2, Ede North Local Government Area, on November 4, 2025.
In the statement, the governor said the prolonged leadership feud at the national level left him with no option but to exit the party. He also expressed gratitude to the PDP for the opportunities it offered him, first as a senator and now as the governor of Osun State.
His exit comes at a time when the PDP is battling persistent internal disputes that have weakened its structure and public appeal.

Within Osun State, recent signals indicated that Adeleke was unlikely to seek the party’s ticket for the 2026 governorship election unless the national crisis was resolved promptly. Party leaders had maintained hope that a resolution, properly recognised by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), could persuade him to remain.
Earlier reports by PUNCH Online suggested that the unending leadership tussle might force Adeleke out of the PDP, thereby shaping the political direction ahead of the 2026 gubernatorial race.
With the governor’s resignation, the PDP suffers yet another major blow, as internal divisions continue to push key figures out of its ranks.
