
Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has been nominated to receive the Media Friendly Award by the national leadership of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), in recognition of his exceptional support for press freedom and the development of the media profession in Nigeria.
According to the NUJ, under the leadership of its National President, Comrade Alhassan Yahaya, Governor Yusuf was selected for the prestigious award due to his notable contributions to national development, promotion of good governance, and his consistently open relationship with the media.
The award will be formally presented to the Governor during the NUJ’s 70th Anniversary Awards and Gala Night, scheduled to hold on Saturday, 21st June 2025, in Abuja.

In a statement, the Kano State Ministry of Information and Internal Affairs commended the NUJ for the honour and reaffirmed the state government’s unwavering commitment to transparency, accountability, and the protection of press freedom as core pillars of democracy.
“On behalf of the Government and people of Kano State, we congratulate His Excellency, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, on this well-deserved recognition,” the statement read. “We deeply appreciate the Nigerian Union of Journalists for acknowledging the Governor’s media-friendly disposition and impactful leadership.”
