Suspected thugs on Monday attacked the convoy of former Minister of Justice and Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF), Abubakar Malami, in Kebbi State.
Malami, a former chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and now leader of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in the state, was said to be on a condolence visit when the incident occurred.
Eyewitnesses confirmed that about 10 vehicles were destroyed, while several of Malami’s supporters sustained injuries.

Reacting to the attack, Malami explained that he was in Birnin Kebbi solely to condole with families of prominent individuals who had passed away during his absence, stressing that his visit was not politically motivated.
“It’s a painful act clearly linked to politics. Some thugs came out from the APC state headquarters armed with dangerous weapons and stones, attacking and destroying our convoy. The truth is, when it comes to politics in Kebbi State, there is no retreat, no surrender,” Malami alleged.
However, the Publicity Secretary of the APC in Kebbi, Isa Assalafy, denied the party’s involvement in the attack, describing the incident as regrettable.
“Kebbi is a peaceful state. No government that enjoys massive support from the people and is confident of victory in 2027 would want the peace of the state to be disrupted,” Assalafy said.
He further alleged that security personnel attached to Malami’s convoy fired shots during the confrontation, a development he claimed escalated the situation.
