Former Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, SAN, has resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC), expressing deep dissatisfaction with the current state of the country under the party’s leadership.
In a statement released on Wednesday, Malami said his decision followed “wide consultations and deep personal reflection,” and announced his defection to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), which he described as a platform committed to justice and inclusion.
“This is not a decision made out of anger or ambition, but one inspired by love for our nation and concern for the hardship our people are facing daily,” Malami said.

He accused the APC-led government of worsening insecurity, economic hardship, and prioritizing political loyalty over national interest. “Nigeria is bleeding… Banditry, kidnappings, and terrorism have become part of our lives,” he stated.
On the economy, he lamented rising prices, job losses, and growing hopelessness among young people.
To his supporters in Kebbi State, Malami pledged continued commitment, saying his move was aimed at amplifying their voices and restoring hope.
“Let us rise above fear and reclaim our nation. Nigeria belongs to all of us,” he reiterated.
