The Kano State Police Command has launched an investigation into the killing of a resident, Ladan Malam Zubairu, at Yusuf Garko Mosque in Maraba Hotoro Quarters, Kano.
The incident was confirmed in a statement issued today Monday by the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa.
According to the statement, the victim was attacked and killed by an unknown assailant within the mosque premises. Eyewitness accounts indicated that the suspect was immediately pursued by an angry mob and subsequently lynched.

The mob also set the suspect’s residence on fire, resulting in the destruction of property. The police said security operatives were swiftly deployed to the area and normalcy has since been restored.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the victim’s severed throat was recovered from the suspect’s pocket. Both bodies were evacuated to the Mohammed Abdullahi Wase Teaching Hospital, Kano, where they were certified dead and are awaiting autopsy.
The Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, has directed a comprehensive investigation into the incident with a view to identifying and prosecuting all those involved.
The police command cautioned the public against jungle justice and urged residents to remain calm and cooperate with law enforcement agencies by providing relevant information to aid the investigation, assuring that all information would be treated with strict confidentiality.
