The Kano State Government has approved a total of ₦14,828,867,679.04 for the execution of major developmental projects across key sectors. The approvals were made during the 30th Executive Council Meeting held on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, at the Council Chamber, Kwankwasiyya City.
This was disclosed during a press briefing by the Honourable Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, who explained that the council’s decisions reflect the administration’s commitment to open governance, transparency, and people-oriented development.
The approved projects cut across several ministries, including Works, Health, Land and Physical Planning, Water Resources, and Rural and Community Development, all geared towards enhancing infrastructure, healthcare delivery, water supply, and rural livelihoods.

Under the Ministry of Works, the council approved the conversion of the Gaya Orphanage Home to a Female Drugs Reformatory Institute, along with the construction of a transit centre in Gaya Local Government Area, at a cost of ₦1.38 billion. The re-award of the Jaba-Gayawa Road construction project was approved for ₦3.74 billion, while the dualization of Dakata-Yadakunya (Bela) Road was re-awarded at ₦6.14 billion. Additionally, the construction of Badgery Road to Yusuf Road in Nassarawa LGA was approved for ₦522 million.
For the Ministry of Land and Physical Planning, the sum of ₦129 million was approved for the printing of security documents by the Nigerian Security Printing and Minting PLC, while an additional ₦753.9 million was approved for the expansion of the ministry’s project scope.
In the health sector, the sum of ₦1.66 billion was approved for various interventions. These include the rehabilitation of Sabo Bakin Zuwo Maternity Hospital (Jakara) for ₦364.5 million and renovations at the School of Health Technology, Bebeji, for ₦294.5 million. Solar energy installations at five maternity facilities will cost ₦113.9 million, while ₦112.3 million was earmarked for the supply of drugs and consumables to three major hospitals. The rehabilitation of a residential house at Zango Quarters, Murtala Specialist Hospital, will cost ₦272.1 million. Materials worth ₦128 million will be supplied to Muhammad Abdullahi Wase Teaching Hospital, and ₦379.2 million has been approved for the construction of a new facility at Zakirai Primary Healthcare Centre (Phase I).
The Ministry of Water Resources received approval of ₦310 million to settle the supply of diesel and PMS for February 2025.
For the Ministry of Rural and Community Development, ₦169.6 million was approved for the rehabilitation of five mini earth dams across Madobi, Gwarzo, Garun Malam, Kibiya, and Ajingi Local Government Areas.
The Council also ratified the 2025 Supplementary and Amendment Budget, increasing the total budget size for the year to ₦889.28 billion. This represents an upward adjustment of ₦169.52 billion from the initial figure of ₦719.76 billion. The Commissioner noted that the adjustment is crucial to enhancing the government’s capacity to meet both ongoing and emerging fiscal responsibilities. The supplementary budget is expected to be forwarded to the Kano State House of Assembly for legislative approval.
Comrade Waiya reiterated the administration’s firm commitment to Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s vision of rebuilding a stronger, more prosperous Kano State.
“These approvals reflect a purposeful and strategic approach to governance, targeting key areas that will bring tangible dividends of democracy to the people,” he stated.
He called on citizens to continue supporting government policies and to actively monitor the implementation of these projects for the sake of accountability and transparency.
