Kano Announces School Closure, Releases Updated 2025/2026 Academic Calendar

The Kano State Ministry of Education has announced that all public and private primary and post-primary schools — both day and boarding — will begin their first-term vacation on Saturday, 13 December 2025. Parents and guardians of boarding students have been asked to return their wards home by Friday, 12 December 2025.

Boarding students are set to resume school on Sunday, 18 January 2026, while day students are expected to return on Monday, 19 January 2026. The second term is scheduled to run from 18 January to 18 April 2026, and the third term will begin on Sunday, 3 May 2026, ending on Saturday, 1 August 2026.

The academic calendar also provides for a ten-day fasting period in schools before the Sallah break, which is slated from Sunday, 1 March 2026, to Saturday, 21 March 2026.

The Commissioner for Education, Dr. Ali Haruna Abubakar Makoda, urged parents and guardians to adhere strictly to the approved calendar dates. He thanked the people of Kano for their continued cooperation and wished students a safe and productive first-term holiday.
