A Director of the Ganduje Foundation and former Commander of the Kano Hisbah Board, Sheikh Muhammad Harun Sani Ibn Sina, has clarified media reports suggesting that former Governor Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje is planning to establish an independent Hisbah Commission.

Ibn Sina stated this in an interview with ‘The Historica Nigeria’ in Kano.

He described the reports by some media organizations as a misinterpretation of Ganduje’s remarks, explaining that the former governor only intends to absorb the dismissed Hisbah Marshals into the Ganduje Foundation, not create a separate statutory commission.

According to him, Ganduje’s intention is to ensure that the affected personnel dismissed by the administration of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf continue to contribute to religious and moral activities under the foundation, which is actively involved in mosque construction, preaching, charity, and other Islamic programmes across Nigeria.

He noted that just like Jama’atul Nasrul Islam (JNI) and Jama’atu Izalatul Bid’a Wa Ikamatus Sunnah, which operate their own marshals, the Ganduje Foundation equally has the mandate to engage such personnel for its religious and humanitarian activities.
“These people that Dr. Ganduje promised to retain will help in fully operating the foundation according to its mandate,” Ibn Sina said.

His clarification comes after widespread media reports claimed the former governor planned to set up an independent Hisbah Commission following the submission of a committee report reviewing the status of the dismissed Hisbah, Hisbah Marshal, and Advisory Unit officers.

Ibn Sina emphasized that the intention is purely to retain and support the dismissed marshals within the foundation’s structure, not to create a parallel government agency.
