Former Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Ibrahim Tanko Muhammad (retd.), has passed away.
A close source confirmed on Tuesday morning that the former head of the Nigerian judiciary died at a hospital in Saudi Arabia.
“Ex-CJN Tanko Muhammad is dead. He passed away this morning at a Saudi Arabian hospital,” the source said.
Justice Muhammad was appointed Chief Justice of Nigeria in January 2019 by late President Muhammadu Buhari, following the removal of his predecessor, Justice Samuel Walter Onnoghen, over issues related to the Code of Conduct.

He served as the head of the judiciary until his sudden exit in 2022, a development that generated widespread public debate and was followed by the appointment of Justice Olukayode Ariwoola as his successor.
Late Justice Ibrahim Tanko Muhammad hailed from Bauchi State and was widely regarded as a respected jurist with decades of service in the Nigerian judiciary.
