Former Senate President, Senator David Mark, has been appointed as the Interim National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), marking a strategic leadership shift aimed at reviving the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The appointment, confirmed by party insiders on Wednesday, is seen as a significant move to bring credibility, experience, and stability to the ADC. Senator Mark, one of Nigeria’s longest-serving Senate Presidents and a retired Brigadier General, is expected to lead efforts in reconciling party factions, strengthening grassroots structures, and building political alliances.

“This is a turning point for the ADC. Senator Mark’s leadership is not just symbolic, it is strategic,” a party source said.
Although Senator Mark is yet to issue a formal statement, sources say he will focus on preparing the party for its national convention and expanding its appeal to disillusioned members of other major political parties.
Analysts believe his emergence could reshape Nigeria’s opposition dynamics and offer the ADC a stronger platform as a viable third force in the nation’s political landscape.
Senator Mark served as Senate President from 2007 to 2015 and represented Benue South for 20 years, earning widespread respect for his legislative skill and leadership.
